Hotel 83 is, as others have said, smack bang in the middle of the RLD, this obviously brings with it an incredible amount of noise, we had a canal facing room on the first floor and our first night, after a half day travelling, me and another in our party agreed the noise was crazy, so if you were to...

The Location - Literally right smack in the middle of IT all. The most crowded area at night as both sides of the road have the "live theatre". Because of of happening the location is, noise can sometimes be an issue. Otherwise, location is good as it is not far from all sorts of eateries, walking distance to the Amsterdam...

I stayed here with my partner last New Year's Eve. We booked in September to be sure we'd get a room and avoid the high nye prices. The room was basic but comfortable and clean. They have the usual dutch, steep stairs and no lift which would be an issue for disabled guests. As it was New Year's Eve, we...

Before I booked the room, I had read that the staff were not very friendly however I soon discovered that that was completely wrong. They were very kind , the breakfast was ideal ( I soon got used to waking up at 8am), the steep traditional stairs turned into a fun routine, our room with its own bathroom was small...

We had a great stay at this hotel. Rooms were very clean, quite big and comfortable. We paid for breakfast which had a wide selection, although finding a place to sit was not always easy. overall, very good value for money. Location is just 1 min from the train station which was very convenient.

Was only here one night and apart from five minutes in the room the entire rest of the time I was sleeping. Very basic, no frills. Was clean, so big points there. Front desk was friendly in that Dutch kind of way! It was cheap and exactly what I needed. Short walk to Train station and the embedded in the...

Worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Myself and a friend payed 85Euro for a 3x3m room with no toilet or shower. That was communal. The room was on a slant. The mattress was thin and you could feel the springs. The owner was one of the worst blokes I've ever met. Offered no service and when you asked him for...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
