Nestled in a picturesque setting, Best Western Lamphey Court Hotel & Spa often wins praise for its serene and family-friendly location. Despite the inviting and sometimes elegant atmosphere noted by some guests, reviews suggest inconsistency in room maintenance and cleanliness, with several visitors expressing dissatisfaction with the value, citing overpriced services.
While the staff receives compliments for their friendliness, issues with organization and service recovery have been flagged. Additionally, the spa amenities seem to leave room for improvement concerning temperature regulation and cleanliness.

We stayed here for 2 nights as a treat for my friends 60th and specifically chose it for the spa. We knew that the sauna and steam rooms were open on alternate days but only the sauna was open on 2 consecutive days meaning we never got to use the steam room which I wanted to use as I have a lung condition and steam rooms really help with it. The chemicals in the jacuzzi were so strong that we had to get out after 5 minutes as our eyes were stinging. There was no costume spinner in the ladies changing room yet there was one in the gents. They provide shampoo in the showers but no conditioner so our hair ended up like straw! I was surprised to hear that they have paying members for the spa, personally I would want a discount if I was paying a membership!
We spent over £100 on an evening meal of steak and it was detailed as coming with mushrooms, chips, onion rings and tomato, I requested no tomato, when it came out the waitress said “no to tomato”, yet the kitchen staff didn’t think that tomato in the salad counted!!
The flush on the toilet in our room took over 10 minutes to refill, which is totally unacceptable!

Beautiful building from the outside & inside generally good order. Dinner served in conservatory which effectively has garden furniture and is cold in March, weird as breakfast served in a more appropriate room ? Bed was probably one of the worst I’ve ever stayed in. Room clean but lacks modern touches like adequate sockets & the ability to switch main lights off by bed. Swimming pool only usable if you kept swimming, too cold to use loungers, ladies changing room floor was filthy, clearly not checked all day. 2nd night went down to dinner to be told there was no table to be had as they had a large party in (another room apparently as restaurant was empty) had already ordered drinks so could not drive anywhere and the hotel is not walking distance to anything. Another guest (not the restaurant server or barman we had spoken with) mentioned we could order pizza from the kitchen. Ourselves and 2 other couples sat in the bar with boxed pizza. We would have much preferred to have been advised sooner that we could not eat at the restaurant. We have experienced this at other Best Westerns and simply made bookings elsewhere.

This review is just for the spa, which I have used many times. On walking into the changing rooms the floor was dirty and needed a wipe down. The pool and jaccuzzi were both cold, more so than usual, which I mentioned to reception who stated they would pass on feedback. However, having read the reviews it has been mentioned many times, but nothing changes. Very poor quality body wash in showers and hard to get any out. The alternate days for the sauna and steam room seems to be a cost saving excercise which is not popular with spa members. The jacuzzi was out of action for a number of months at the end of 2023. No compensation offered. The pool and jacuzzi could be cleaner. Feedback is often given but nothing changes. Sad as it could be fabulous, the facility is lovely.

Response from Lamphey Court Hotel Spa team, Owner at Best Western Lamphey Court Hotel & Spa
Responded 22 Jan 2024
Hello, Thank you for your comments & reply as follows 1.The jacuzzi temperature is monitored every 4 hours & maintained at 34 degrees 2.We do apologise that the swimming pool temperature has been lower than usual at 26.5 degrees, we normally maintain at 29 degrees but have been waiting for a new heater which has been on protracted delivery 3.Body wash in changing rooms is a quality brand. 4.The jacuzzi was not 'out of action ' for months in 2023 but for occasional days for maintenance 5.We do operate the Sauna & Steam room on alternate days so as to give users a choice ....this is more popular than closing one of them to save energy.

My stay was a week for work in the area and this is my go to hotel and one of my favourites. As always i enjoyed great home cooked food, stayed in a comfortable and clean room. The friendly staff make long work days bearable with smiles and attention and every evening the fantastic spa and gym were at my disposal. My wife will join me on my next visit as she feels left out!

Very poor would never go there again went for 2 nights with 2 small dogs for new year - never done this before for new year but had no choice due to personal circumstances - everything initially booked was cancelled - new years entertainment - kitchen not open for lunch or dinner on 1st night - advised on the morning we left ( so didn’t see the email) that the New Year’s Eve menu had also been changed- so instead of rib eye steak & rack of lamb (our choices) it was brisket of beef - the cheapest cut of beef - mine was ‘fatty’ & ‘stringy’ . I won’t go through the starter & desert but everything’special’ had been removed we couldn’t cancel as there was no time to book alternative - this is a very dated and shabby hotel and is definitely not 4 star -- we regularly take our 2 small dogs on weekend breaks this is the worse accommodation we have visited .We complained on the 1st day and were told they would pass our complaint on ! On the 30th we were out most of the afternoon & evening, we ate at the Dial Inn which was fabulous plus we had sirloin steak & lamb ! We were out and about all day on New Year’s Eve so overall it did not spoil our plans BUT it was an expensive 2 days in sub standard accommodation and I would not advise anyone to stay there especially with a dog .On the only positive note the staff were really nice

We had studio 240. We had a dog so we were not allowed to stay in main hotel. The room was a good size but the double bed wasnt great. It smelt of wet dog. We don't allow dogs on the furniture but obviously other people do. I understand why having dogs means getting less impressive rooms, but this room was smelly, dirty and the rug was covered in hair. They did come in and clean again but it wasn't great.
The furniture is broken, the lights are right over the bed so you can't sit in bed and watch TV. If you sit on sofa, you fall through.
You can't take dogs into the main hotel so breakfast time is tricky and a drink in the bar in an evening is impossible. We went into Pembroke for a meal which was nice.
The palace next door is great to wander around. The pool was nice, the hot tub was a bit on the cold side and the sauna and steam room don't run at the same time so if you want a steam, come on a Saturday. Would have been nice for a water fountain.
Overall, stay was okay but I wouldn't come with a dog. You pay more for a lot less. It's wrong to call it pet friendly, it isn't. £270 for two nights is steep to stay in a smelly, shoddy and dark room.

Booked in for 27-29th Jan 23. Arrived at beautiful location, looked grand at first. At reception was told robes and slippers would be ready wait for us at the spa. Told were to go to room. Room at first glances looked nice tidy, but once settled in started to notice loos of dust every where, dust and dirt on the doors, skirting boards, hand rails around the room, dust on lamps and lampshades, broken and dusty wall lights and shandies. Was a stain on bedside lamp shade.bathroom paint job, poor and untidy, dried paint splatter on mirror and tiles, there was mold on bath tapes and shower head, broken tiles, Condensation dripping from ceiling as bathroom fan so blocked with dust and cob webs.paint work on doors scuffed and chipped, curtains not hooked on properly looking scruffy, hair drier old slow took 40 mins to dry partners hair.dinner was in a extremely cold conservatory, dinner nothing special no better than an average weather spoons meal.my partner dressed up all nice in new dress and had to put on her thermal socks and boots and had to put on my hoodi to stay warm, was moved to a radiator that didn't work, another couple also asked for Thier radiator to be turned on, the radiators did not work, staff didn't seem to bothered. My partner was so cold at dinner she went to car to cry and warm up, with heated seats. She cried couple time through night as didn't sleep, 2 single bed put together, zipped together with a cover, this lead to a very uncomfortable night sleep. I'm 6;2 and feet were hanging off end off bed and woke up with sore back, woke up at 6.30am to find my partner not there and again crying in the car. Bedroom was warm enough. Breakfast was served in tired cold room, breakfast was extremely small and disappointing. Spoke with manager who offered to change rooms but at that point my partner had already decided she didn't want to stay any longer. We had refund for the second night we didn't stay and money off are drinks, still paid £197 for a real bad night sleep and very poor experience and £11 for something we don't know ?.manager not bothered by situation, staff made comments to other guests about the cold dinner room and the cost of living and how heating is just a luxury. Other guest response was, at this cost it should be warm. The spa swimming pool was very cold so we couldn't use it , steam room didn't work, again the spa was cold and dull poor lighting again looked tired. Didn't book treatment after seeing the poor dull treatment rooms.

Throughout visit, staff were warm, welcoming, and friendly. The Venue itself is gorgeous and historic with many of its features.
Payed for the dine, b&b in a superior king room. Was disappointed with the room, seemed to be a standard at best with the bed a double that wasn't comfortable however the period features and large bathroom could make up for this.
The food itself was tasty and in good portions with the service being quick and friendly. The bar is a little overpriced at 15 for 2 singles with mixers. Unfortunately, I have been unwell the night of and the past 2 days possibly as a result of the food. Hot breakfast was average at best but would definitively speak highly on the continental.
Utilised the spa although no treatments were available. Prebooking definitely recommended although cannot see the availability online unless you have an membership account. Spa number not answered on 3/4 attempts prior however good response rate on email. But was not able to book treatment. Nooone on desks to ask about robes so had to use the towels provided. For a 3hr trip to spa noticed 1 staff member who reported she was not working on the desk. Pool was cold therefore spent most time in the jacuzzi and steam/hot rooms added to the lack of robes. Changing facilities small with unclean floors. Disappointed as this was the main reason for choosing this hotel.
Overall Paying for 3* amenities and experience within a 4* Venue.

If you’re looking for a dog friendly hotel do not come here! On arrival at reception to check in we were greeted with you can’t bring your dog in here, it’s ok while your already in here to check in but don’t come in here with him again ! Hotel is Advertising as dog friendly but only place dogs are actually allowed are in certain guests rooms, ours was called the coach house at back of hotel where you get woken up by kitchen deliveries. There’s no lounge area where you can relax with a drink with dogs and no area for meals, if you have meals delivered to your room they charge £5 extra per tray. All in all it was a most unpleasant stay and I would not recommend going here.

Just returned from a night away from this lovely hotel in peaceful surroundings. All staff we encountered were friendly and seemed to enjoy what they were doing. We booked a family room for three adults last minute and were surprised by the spacious coach house room. My husband wanted to bring the mattress home with him it was so comfy. My daughter and I used the spa twice which was really enjoyable and not at all crowded. Breakfast was served in a lovely light room and plenty of selection was on offer including some freshly cooked items should you have wanted it. Definitely deserves to be given at least an 8 .5 on trip advisor in my personal opinion.
