We had a nice stay here. The room was nicer than we expected, quite spacious, and had chocolates waiting for us on our pillows. Mentioning pillows, our double bed had 2 for each of us, instead of the typical one per person. There was a good size balcony which we appreciated and the windows had rolladens which we love. The bathroom had a shower with a tub which was great for us with our younger kids and is something we miss when it’s not there. Also in the room is a mini bar with a few drink options including some alcohol (not sure of the specifics because we didn’t partake) as well as a small safe if needed. We didn’t know when we booked that breakfast was included which was great because the food in Switzerland is insanely expensive compared to anywhere else we have been in Europe. The quality is way better than anywhere else, too, but you definitely pay for it. We were supposed to make reservations for breakfast but we didn’t realize it, but they accommodated us we appreciated very much. I can’t say if it were busier that they would have been able to, so reserve your table! Breakfast was buffet style and included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, lots of bread options including croissant and the crusty German style bread, fruit, cereal, yogurt, juice… We also had cappuccino and hot chocolate made fresh for us by the wait staff. All of the staff we interacted with were quite kind, spoke English well, and took good care of us. The hotel is near a couple of tram stops but not right in the middle of the action of the Altstadt. We walked there from the main train station and enjoyed the sites, then took the tram back in the morning to make our scheduled agenda items on time.…
Super tiny room with barely any space to walk around. Minimal toiletries provided. Barely any worktop area to work or floor space for suitcase. Lighting in the room was far from sufficient. It could do with brighter light in the room. Housekeeping service was mediocre in general. The hotel has a small tucked away lift but otherwise the staircase seemed more welcoming for use. The buffet breakfast was acceptable with good muesli, typical eggs and cold cuts selection; service of the waitresses was friendly and attentive.
you can reach the hotel in few minutes from public trafic stations, you enter in a newly renovated building and you find you in a place of tranquility, a place for short stay holidays as well for buisness, you find a rich breakfast buffet, the room is modern and equipped with a water kettle for tea and cafe, lounge and restaurant are looking fine, and a wonderful garden is at your disposition. A stay you wan't miss and you will come back!
Nicely tucked away down a side street, but still conveniently close to tram links and Sihlcity. Room was bijou but perfectly fine. The restaurant was modern but a little on the soulless side, with a limited menu, which meant that after day two I’d run out of options for an evening meal. Luckily, it’s close to several restaurants so as long as you don’t mind going for a wander, there are alternatives. Staff were friendly and the food was delivered quickly and was of good quality, so no complaints from that perspective.
Lovely quiet calm clean hotel. Friendly helpful staff starting with Christine at Reception.Good spacious clean rooms Excellent breakfast and location. Also special thanks to the Buffet staff. always smiling and cheerful. Will definitely stay again and recommend to family and friends.. Stayed Dec 27 2019 to jan 3 2020. Ravinder Nair India
As I experienced during my 2 prior stays, the hotel staff made me feel like I was home - from Bruno, the general manager, to Claudia and the rest of the front desk staff and the staff at the lounge/bar/restaurant, everyone excelled. The upgraded room was clean, comfortable and relaxing.
We spent two nights at the Engimatt in a lovely room. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the center of Zurich or a short tram ride away. The hotel sells tickets for the tram, so the center of Zurich is very accessible. They offer a nice breakfast with a very friendly staff at the front desk and in the restaurant. We had dinner at a wonderful neighborhood Italian restaurant a short walk from the hotel. We would definitely stay here again.
If you'd like to stay a bit outside of center city, this is the place. Easily reachable by tram. Clean, peaceful, very friendly hosts, great b'fast buffet. You can also enjoy wonderful meals and will be pleased about the quality.
I was not told they had booked me in a smoking room at check-in and then had no alternative rooms. Three days later my nose is still running from sleeping in what felt like an ash tray. Absolutely revolting. Make sure you request a non-smoking room, if required. I didn't realize this would be necessary given it's 2019, not 1989!?!
Since the generational change in the hotel management prices constantly have gone up and the quality has deteriorated. Unfortunately, this has impact on the service quality. too - the owner family loses the formerly loyal guests. Hotel and restaurant are more expensive now, but as a customer you do not feel appreciated anymore. Hence, I cannot recommend the Engimatt Hotel anymore.
