Certificate of Excellence
Inspired by the contrasts between banking and the red-light district, between art and capitalism, the designer Werner Aisslinger and his team have created a self-contained microcosm in the direct vicinity of Zurich Central Station: the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse. The legendary Langstrasse is a melting pot of cultures and lifestyles. Regularly changing resident artists work in and on the hotel, ensuring a steady flow of creative input. At the heart of the hotel is the Molcho family’s NENI restaurant with its eclectic brand of eastern Mediterranean cuisine. The Cinchona Bar upholds the tradition of day drinking – with highballs & music and a wide selection of fortified wines. 170 rooms • Mini-bar • Safe • UE Boom Bluetooth speaker • Free WiFi throughout the building • Free MINI rental • Free Schindelhauer bikes • NENI Restaurant • Cinchona Bar • 1 function room • Pawn shop • Audio Tape Lounge • Gambling & Business corner • Jogging corner • Sauna & gym • Kein&Aber kiosk •

I generally like 25hours Hotels. The concept is great, and I have stayed at several of their properties before. The newest addition in Zurich Langstrasse delivers on the brand promise: great location in a nightlife area of Zurich, with the city center being an easy 15 min walk away, cool people and comfortable rooms.

But here is the big issue:
Although advertised as ‘air-conditioned’, the rooms are definitely NOT air-conditioned. The newly constructed building follows passive house standards, a rigorous standard for energy efficiency which reduces the building's ecological footprint. Although certainly based on good intentions, the concept is definitely not suitable for a hotel where people have different preferences for sleeping temperature. There is a temperature dial in the room, which has no effect. The room remained around 25° celsius throughout our stay. It was unbearably hot and difficult to sleep. There is a temperature dial which has no effect whatsoever. It’s also right next to the busy railroad tracks of Zurich main station, which makes it impossible to keep the window open at night.

Complaining about this at the reception yields only an explanation of passive building standards. They must be well aware that this is an issue. I’m not an a/c addict, I sleep comfortably at 21°, but who in their right mind would create a hotel (priced at 4-star level) where guests can’t control their ambient temperature? Although it would be a really nice hotel, I will not stay here again.

I spent 3 nights here on a work trip and really enjoyed the hotel. The room was very spacious, with views over the railtrack (ok not the best), a comfortable bed (but horrible small duvet) and plenty of space to sit, work, etc). The shower is huge and glass fronted so pretty much in the middle of the room. Toiletries are nice (but there is no conditioner for hair). Quirky touches such as a bag you can borrow to go out and about (I did!), a bicycle you can also borrow with a backpack. There is a boombox speaker to also borrow, and a vinyl record player (with a bad selection of records!). There is also a Nespresso machine, and a cute glass teapot and some teas yet no way of heating up hot water (!). The gym itself is a room with a couple of cardio machines, there is a sauna with a view which looked lovely and sadly I had no time to use. Loved the bar (lively in the evening, quiet and nice for breakfast) and had dinner at Neni restaurant which was very good. I would stay again

This is a pretty cool hotel, the bedroom was very comfortable and the shower was pretty amazing. The bar area was also good and quite lively at night. The hotel is not in the best of areas but was very close to the station.
Only downside was that the room was too warm at night. There is no air con even though it says it has on website.

Last night we were at a friend's farewell party in the bar of the hotel. We had our own corner and the best service to be imagined. Waiter Timothy did not only carefully anticipate any wish, he also entertained us with his humor and charming smiles. He made us feel very welcome and taken care of. Great night, thanks a lot.
