Part of my last journey to Europe was to learn more about my paternal past in that I had traced it to the late 1500's in central Switzerland and found then my ancestors were Mennonites. Hotel Biennenberg is not your usual hotel in that it is part of a Mennonite seminary...but wait. For those who think of horsedrawn carriage only..whoa!...

Bienen means bees. The name is coming from the bee farm they have in the area. When you reach the hotel, you are asked to drive in a small road, up in the forest, for some miles, reaching this spacious hotel on the top a hill. View is lovely, the green area is very relaxing, full of games for children....

I have slept in the hotel for two nights there. The hotel is located on the top of a hill just 2 km outside the village of Liestal. To get there you absolutely need a car or taxi (from Liestal about 23 CHF). The hotel and the rooms are not luxurious but clean and functional. The restaurant is fine. The...

In a charming building very neat and clean rooms that look as if were just renovated. The staff is very kind and efficient. Free and fast wi-fi all over. Highly recommended.
