This nuce hotel is centrally located with goid access by public transportation, in a historical building with nice rooms (some overlooking the Barfusserplatz and the cathedral) and curteous service. Exquisit restaurant.

A bit strange staying in a room that used to be a prison cell, but in the end I had no complaints. Comfortable, clean and very near the centre. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. A good option when you are on a medium budget

Au Violon is a very nice hotel in the heart of Basel. The hotel is situated very well, only less than 100 metres from the nearest tram stop, but still has a very peaceful location with a beautiful inner court that leads to the hotel. The single rooms are not very large, but spacious enough, and the beds are of...

Au Violin was a lovely hotel close to downtown Basel and within walking distance to many museums, restaurants and attractions. Our room was basic but clean and had a great view of the cathedral and the square. The free transit pass was a welcome bonus as the trams and buses are very clean and easy to use.

We visited here whilst in Basel for an exhibition. The building is an old prison, although I wouldn't have realised this if I'd not been told. It's a steep climb up the way we came but there is a lift for those that need it. We shared some starters; goat's cheese and fois gras. Both were delicious. The dressing on...

Two iterations before becoming a hotel, Au Violon was a convent then prison. Wonder what Basel was like then! Now, the hotel is nestled in quiet location--literally above the fray--aobve the very lively town center, main streets lined with restaurants (including an OK sushi one), the theatre, and more. To get there, you can walk out the frond door and...

We spent two nights in this lovely boutique hotel. The staff were extremely helpful, from the time I made our reservations until the time we left. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel if you're staying in Basel.

We had a four night stay in one of the 'Police Station' rooms (no 12) overlooking the Christmas market. The location of the hotel is ideal for a winter break being very close to the Barfűsserplatz, main tram stops and the river Rhine as well as the two main Christmas markets. The room (which had a TV - but we...

Very charming place in the middle of Basel. This building that has almost 1000 years was first a religious building and then for around 100 years, a prison (until 1995). This is why you can get 2 types of rooms: Police station or Cell. The job to transform the prison to a hotel is very nice. When you are in...

This hotel is a former prison, but you wouldn't know that when you're in the lovely restaurant or one of the cozy bedrooms. The location is perfect (we were delighted to find the Christmas market so close by during our December visit), and the staff members we dealt with were polite and helpful. I would have appreciated a kettle in...
