Stayed at the Hotel for 3 nights, the rooms were big & sterile, the bath towels old & thin. There was no restaurant for evening meals. The coffee machine kept breaking down in the breakfast room however the breakfast room did look out over the lovely garden. I had 2 things missing from the room- one was an mp3 player....

The hotel is a professionally managed location owned by a church institution. It offers simple but comfortable rooms in the middle of Basel and a very nice breakfast in the restaurant. It is close to tram stations and a 10 min footwalk brings you to the old town of Basel. I like the atmosphere and I always come back when...

As it was a business trip I found the hotel rather nice! The was very clean and good-furnished. The breakfast was also good. One thing I didn't like as lack of room service and restaurant. Anyway the location is good and service too. I had no problems with them.

We stayed for one night and were glad it was not longer. The hotel shares a building with some other institutions and we felt as though we were in a college dorm ( a very clean one, but soulless). The room was large, and decorated in blacks, grey and steel, with functional lighting. Breakfast, although good in terms of range...

I stayed here two nights and generally was quite pleased with this hotel. There are electric trolley and bus line stops within 5 minutes walk that can take you virtually anywhere in Basel. The old city is also just a short walk away. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to help guests. The hotel is in a...

We stayed for a night in December and had booked two rooms. The grounds are large and great for children. The breakfast spread was good, in the restaurant, which is adjacent to the main building, like a chalet. The rooms are no frill-the staff quite professional and helpful. Most of the rooms were occupied by people attending conferences and seminars...

If you are okay with institutional concrete walls and no decor or frills, then it's okay. Not what we were looking for at all. We had poor customer service when we asked to switch rooms to one with a bathtub for my son (of only 2 tubs in the whole place). The room they then gave us was the attic...

I recently spent one night at the hotel on a weekend package from Basel Tourism (note it is MUCH cheaper to go through them for many Basel hotels). The hotel is a protestant mission with some fun space-age features like front doors that swish open when you touch the stairs. My single room was spotlessly clean. The bed was built...

We stayed in this property during the quarterfinals of Euro 2008. The hotel was fully booked so we were given one of the satellite apartments across the road. The flat was excellent. Spacious bedroom, nice table, good kitchen, and an adequate bathroom. Location of the hotel is fantastic, within a short walking distance to the old city. Breakfast was fantastic...

Big room with extra-large bath. Large breakfast taken in a small house in the park of the hotel. Friendly and calm in the center of Basel.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The 1890s could be a strict era for children, and this is when a certain missionary family child, the future writer and Nobel laureate, Hermann Hesse, roamed our park. We imagine it was prohibited for young children to snack on the grapes and berries in the park at the time. But it seems equally likely that young Hermann ignored the restrictions. He already had a well-earned reputation as a rebel. So, if during autumn in our park a red-cheeked apple smiles at you, give in to its innocent seduction, just as Hermann would! And during the rest of the year we will lead you into further modest temptations because we are enthusiastic about our park and want to share this with all our guests. During the warm seasons we invite the ice cream man into our park, and when it is cold the roast chestnut vendor, so you can indulge in these little treats too. And if, as has happened with many other guests, attending one of our events gives you food or refreshment ideas for your next reception or barbecue, please come see us. In our park, a thousand and one such dreams can come true. PS: Throughout our park, no chemical insecticides or herbicides are used. Instead, all the fruit is grown using only certified organic cultivation methods and substances. And if you rest for a while on one of our cosy park benches, you will share your time with many birds and butterflies. ... more   less
