Certificate of Excellence
Midway through the ancient road that links Gubbio to Perugia, stands on the horizon the severe and majestic Petroia Castle. A path through woods and meadows leads to a huge gate, beyond which Petroia opens in all its beauty. The origins of the Castle of Petroia are to be found between the IX and X century, on the 7th June 1422 was born in Petroia Federico da Montefeltro, the most famous Duke of Urbino. The Castle of Petroia is composed of medieval buildings enclosed within the Castle's walls. The three buildings that make up the Castle welcome guests in spacious rooms: The ancient and authentic rooms are carefully furnished to create an elegant setting and a welcoming atmosphere.

We recently stayed for 3 nights. Firstly, we thought the staff was really good---friendly, helpful. Unfortunately, there were some hiccups, in part due to nature.
We reserved the tower room. We were told at check in that there was an insect problem due to the time of year w

Old castle with nice rooms, advisable to have dinner in the restaurant. Very close to Gubbio. Service is nice but not as friendly as is could be typical in Italy. Recommenced for a romantic weekend or a dinner

This is a superb castle. Our family came here in August 2018 on holiday. The views are magnificent, the food is excellent and the staff are fantastic. Castello di Petroia is magical! There is also a good swimming pool.

We stayed here for one night. The castle is out in the country with nothing around but peace and quiet. Staff was very friendly. The food at the restaurant was outstanding. I definitely recommend a meal there. Get something with veal if you enjoy veal.

This is definitely a very interesting place and a top-notch hotel in terms of its service. We were greeted by a very friendly and professional lady who carried my huge and heavy suitcase all the way up to our room (poor woman!) and then took the time to give us a tour of the cast

We are traveling mainly by train during our time in Italy this summer. Will we need to rent a car to get to and from the castle?
Sorry for not answering earlier. I am not too good with these things. In Umbria you really need to rent a car. Most things tend to be on hilltops and trains are not the best way to get around since they run in the valleys.

I would like to make another trip to Italy. This location looks great. When is the best time for fall colors? Thanks in advance for your time. Tom Anchorage
Dear Tom, the best period for fall colors is end October/November here. Everything, the woods surroundings the Castle get a great yellow, orange, red, light green colors. Really a nice atmophere!

I am considering booking this hotel. What towns were you able to easily visit from this hotel?
Hello, the Castle is 14 km far from the Town of Gubbio, 25 Km from Perugia and 30 Km for Assisi. So within 15-30 minutes drive you reach the main towns in Umbria.
