Because I cannot place a year visited any earlier I had to put may of 16. However I visited in May of 13 with my brother. It was my second day in Italy when we arrived at this place and the magic was strong. The people who were running the place were very kind and the surroundings were beautiful. I... More

We had the best time at Castello di Petrata, the hotel is in the most perfect surroundings and has amazing views. All of the staff are so friendly and welcoming. We looked forward to returning to the hotel for our dinner each night as the service, food and wine were excellent. The hotel is a great place to rest and... More

I was there last April and now 4 month later I returned with my husband. Its simply a magical place! Service outstanding, good food and just wonderful. Only thing we did not like A> the outside hot tub will only be filled with water for 60 Euros B> restaurant never has any daily specials so menu is always the same.... More

Relaxing stay. Beautiful gardens well maintained . Wonderful sunset views. Helpful staff. Suggest booking table for dinner as drive is very winding road 6 km up. Not a good drive if having wine with dinner. Food very nice in the dining room excellent wait staff . Generous breakfast included.

We stayed at Castello di Petrata with our children and got room 101 which is almost an appartment (2 rooms linked by a small corridor, 2 bathrooms) - This is a very beautifully restaurated Castle with very nice gardens, a fresh Swimming pool, spaces to sit down, read a book and relax by your own away from the crowds. The... More

Our review last year was overdue, our review this year is written whilst we are still at Petrata (our last morning) as WE DON'T WANT TO LEAVE!! Last year we were lucky and privileged enough to get married at this magical beautiful place and we vowed at the time to return every year! We are back! When returning to a... More

We have just spent a week at the beautiful Castello Di Petrata. A little bit of paradise away from the crazy world we live in! The views over Assisi are amazing and there are so many lovely towns and villages to visit within an hours drive. Beautiful gardens and lots of little secluded spots to sit and enjoy the views.... Located on a hilltop overlooking a lush green valley across to the walled city of Assisi you can't help but feel that you are in a different time! The rooms are beautiful and the staff are even more beautiful ... so welcoming, so helpful, so warm and friendly. The food in the restaurant was nothing less than wonderful - beautiful... More

We were the only ones there on the night we stayed. Rooms are in a bldg adjacent to the Castle unless you book apts for multiple nights. Our room was LARGE! Clean with all amenities. No restaurant for dinner when we were there. The Baron still lives there, although he was away. But sure to ask to see the Chapel,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Far from it all, let yourself be carried away by the silence, colours and scents of the soft Umbrian hills, where what counts is the sunset, the perfume of the earth and flowers. A true oasis of peace where Aldo and Giuseppina's family and their staff welcome guests with courtesy and kindness into the warmth of a private residence, for a holiday in harmony with art and nature. Petrata Castle, an ancient 14th century fortress and its annexed chapel, nestles in the midst of gentle hills on a quiet and sunny plain, 600 metres above sea level and only 6 km from Assisi. Its position of dominance in the surrounding countryside, allows it an wide panoramic view of Assisi and the Umbrian valley. ... more   less
