My friend and I had a pleasant stay in this bed & breakfast - the host was very kind and helpful, the room was clean and our beds were comfortable. The host also provided a nice breakfast in the morning, with croissants, juice, coffee, and more. The only problem is that it's not within walking distance from the main part of Lucca, but a taxi was only about €13 from the train station. There is a bus stop across the street, which we took advantage of once, but the next day the bus didn't show up when it was supposed to so we had to take a taxi anyway.

Greeted by our very pleasant host and his mother, we were given a ground floor room opposite the reception. Very spacious, but with suspicious "sewer-like" odours entering the room. Not always, infrequently. Enough to become annoying. Breakfast was excellent and served off the reception counter and eaten at small tables outside the front door.

First of all, you should know that this hotel is about 2 km outside Lucca, and that you'll need a car if you want to visit the old town (which, presumably, is why you're there!). Taxis are probably expensive, and I suspect the public transport won't be running late at night (you should check if you're thinking in this direction). Next, you should know that the hotel is right on a busy road (just at a bridge) and there's traffic noise all the time. That's OK with the (double-glazed) windows closed, but not so nice if you want the windows open if it's hot. This is a simple hotel, run by family. Service is friendly although English doesn't seem to be spoken by the hosts. This wasn't a problem, but a little bit surprising. We'd booked an "Elite" room, which is a bit of a laughable description for what we had; we didn't have high expectations, and they were met. The room was pretty small, with most of it taken up by the largish double bed. The whole thing was painted orange, which is a bit of an acquired taste. There was a cupboard and a couple of small bedside tables and a large floodlight pointed at the ceiling. Our room had a private bathroom (that was the "elite" part I guess), which essentially meant that we had exclusive used of the bathroom on our floor. Presumably, the guests in the other room on our floor had to go downstairs to use the bathroom there. The arrangement with the doors clearly allows the bathroom to be "private" or shared, depending on bookings. This is a simple place, no frills and if you don't have high expectations, you'll be happy. Everything worked, there were clean towels and linen and the place was basically clean. It's a couple of steps up from a backpacker's hostel I suppose. It probably goes without saying, but there's no lift and the stairs are a bit narrow. Best not to have much in the way of luggage. Parking is free and available right outside the hotel (a bit awkward, the access is down a ramped driveway from the street). The hotel has free WiFi, but during our visit it wasn't working, so I cannot comment on how good it is when it does work (assuming it does sometimes work). Breakfast is simple but perfectly adequate, served on the little terrace in front of the hotel. Good coffee - made to order, a pastry, and a few other packaged items.

Il Ponte was a lovely b&b. it was clean, spacious, and the owner, Luigi, is a very nice guy. Breakfast was good as well. That said, the location was somewhat of a problem for us. It is about a 45-55 minute walk from the city centre. It is accessible by bus, but only before 8pm. For us, this meant walking for nearly an hour after dinner to get back. The buses also stop running for several hours in the middle of the day (2 to 4, I think). If we had a car with us, this would have been the perfect b&b, but without a car if was a bit challenging. All in all, a great guesthouse, though! Other tips: check in is not possible before 4pm, and Luigi will not be there, so leaving luggage is not an option. Make sure to arrive in Lucca after 4.

The tenants are very nice, the rooms are clean and the bed very comfortable. Just maybe a bit loud if your neighbors snore. The breakfast is good. For the price, it's a great place to rest for one night on your way to Rome.

Hotels was fine for a night. Probably would have been ok if stayed longer. On arrival check in ok, the hotel manager even took me to a meeting I had. The hotel is, I think about 3 miles from the centre. For one person I got a room big enough for 3 people and a little sofa. Clean and tidy. Check in was 4pm which could be a pain for some. Towels a bit hard but what do u expect for 42 euros a night. Breakfast from 8.30. Perfect for me but maybe not for some. Enough English is spoken. Hotel guy was friendly at breakfast. All in all fine for the money.

The hotel Il Ponte in S. Pietro is located very near to Lucca. You can park in front of the hotel in a quite street. It's free of charge. We stayed in a triple-bed room which is air conditioned. It is big and has a sofa and a nice bathroom. The breakfast was good: The hotelier made good and fresh coffee/cappuccino and served fresh croissants (tasted like it was from a bakery). It is easy and quick to get to the centre of Lucca (just take the car. in 5 minutes you are at the centre. The best is to park in a side street, then it is cheap/free of charge) and to Pisa (it's a 20 minutes ride. we parked next to an university building and payed 60 cents per hour). We loved the hotel since it was simple and nice. The hotelier was very friendly and answered all of our questions.

Not plush or luxurious, but good value for the money. Staff were helpful as well as the receptionist giving us a useful tips of where to visit as well as recommending a very good restaurant which was very popular with the locals as well as being packed on a Wednesday night. Also advised us on a free parking spot almost next to the city walls to avoid parking charges.
