Detailed Reviews
Beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Rooms very comfortable and quiet. Staff were all very helpful especially Alessio who went out of his way to assist.
We had breakfast here daily which was very good. The restaurant was lovely for an evening meal although a very small menu so twice was enough. House wine was lovely and only 5 Euro per glass.
Our only issue was taxis. We wanted to spend some time in Lucca and found getting anywhere difficult. A taxi charged us the fare from Lucca to the hotel and then added on the onward journey to our location. This meant that the taxi fare to the tennis club was 28 euros, this is a distance of 3km.
This also meant we couldn't get a taxi to Lucca in the evening as the taxi fare to Lucca would have been 30 - 40 Euros Perhaps we were swindled by the local cab drivers but these were cabs booked by the hotel.
We tried walking to other restaurants but other than La Checca, this involved walking along the side of a busy road with no pavement in the dark. Far from ideal.

Dear emmaSheffield_Uk, Thank you for taking the time to write us such a nice review. We are happy that you appreciated the quality of our staff, restaurant and rooms. Villa Marta is located in the middle of the Lucca countryside, which grants a peaceful and restful atmsphere, away from the city noise; this means that its position is a strenght. However we understand that, should you not have a car, it is expensive to move back and forth to Lucca. In any case we are grateful for your compliments and we would all be delighted to welcome you back soon! Albergo Villa Marta & Ristorante Botton D’Oro Staff

We were delighted to return here after a two year hiatus due to the pandemic.
The hotel is set in the middle of the countryside a good 10 minute taxi journey from the Lucca walls. That's 25-30 euros each way in case you're wondering.
The staff at the hotel are universally amazing. Welcoming, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We were treated to a cheese tasting to accompany a bottle of wine from the bar after our first dinner, enjoyed some wonderful cocktails and drinks in the garden. The restaurant is good but not outstanding and the menu is limited, especially at lunchtime. Breakfast is good however it seems a shame to have to pay extra for eggs cooked to your liking and decent orange juice. Bread rolls were on occasion obviously from the previous day.
The pool area and gardens are gorgeous and the sense of peace and tranquility here is second to none. Rooms are tastefully decorated but simple in terms of facilities. In previous years we have very much enjoyed sitting out in the summer house in the evening however the furniture is in desperate need of replacement - definitely past its best!
Would I go back? Yes, definitely. It's a special place which we love however there is room for some improvement.

What a wonderful hotel guesthouse. We wished we had booked more nights.
We only stayed one night, but it’s left a lasting impression on us, and I’m already looking to book for next year.
We stayed in room 101, which is just off the reception area. It’s a lovely quiet hotel, and on the day we arrived (Sunday) we had the whole pool area to ourselves for a good hour or so.
We stayed as two adults and our 8yr old boy, and he loved it as well.
The pool is a little cold, but once you are in you soon warm up. The sun beds around the pool are very comfortable, so much so I fell asleep and woke myself up snoring ha, the hotel provides towels to use around the pool.
You can order drinks to be served around the pool loungers, and they are reasonably priced for a hotel.
They have a restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner (we only sampled breakfast, which was included in our room rate). The restaurant is closed Sunday night.
The staff are so friendly and helpful, I would highly recommend a stay here.
We travelled from Pisa airport, which took around 45mins off memory. We then drove into Pisa to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa and to sample local cuisine. The dining choices were endless. I’m gluten free myself and had lots of options to pick from, including pizza and pasta.
The hotel is set in a pretty location as well. They have bikes you can use free of charge to visit the location area. A big 10/10 from us.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this lovely hotel. We went to celebrate my partners birthday. We arrived from Pisa airport by car and it’s about a 30 minute drive.
Beautiful villa and grounds. Check in went ok but we were disappointed that the restaurant would be closed during our stay.
We were in room 110 a ground floor room in the smaller building near the pool area.
The room was fine. Classically furnished which is in keeping with the age of the property. Large bed. Bathroom with no bath but a decent shower. My partner said the toiletries were a bit lacking, no body lotion or conditioner. The wardrobe a hole in the wall, was also very small but we managed as it was only a short stay. The aircon worked well which was good as it was very hot weather while we were there.
Breakfast was served from 8am and wasn’t bad. You couldn’t help yourself to the buffet due to Covid but the waiting staff did their best to bring you the items you wanted and they also brought us coffee and juice to our table which was outside.
The staff were all very good and the reception staff made dinner reservations for us at nearby restaurants. They were also helpful with printing our boarding passes.
The grounds are lovely and there is a superb swimming pool which was perfect temperature. Plenty of nice sun beds . It all looked new. All in all we enjoyed our stay.
It would have been nice if the restaurant had been open but there is a great one at the end of the road.
I would recommend this hotel and be happy to return.

We have just stayed here for 1 week and it was absolutely amazing! Such a rustic Italian villa with all the amenities you would need. If you want authentic, family feel, peaceful, relaxed atmosphere within a 10 minute drive into Lucca and central to visit all other Tuscan regions, then this is your place! The staff here are so helpful, kind, really do care and want you to be happy and get what you want and need. The restaurant is open for breakfast, for lunch for snacks and if you fancy that added extra something special the restaurant is open in the evening, almost fine dining style with some very good food. The pool is so close to the rooms and enjoyable to sit by and chill. The pool is not heated and would imagine in the summer the sun warms it up. We were there is May and although a bit cold when first walking in, after lying in the warm sun it served to cool you down. The grounds are beautiful and the setting of the villa is so picturesque. They have e-bikes and mopeds available to hire and always willing to advise re days out, train times and order taxis etc Lucca train station is only 10 mins away 20 euro one way. There is lots of parking if hiring a car. The hotel is a a 28 min drive from Pisa Airport but you could arrange a taxi (maybe pricey tho around 70- 90 euro), if having a car you can easily find way round local area with google maps or access the train station and you can take trips to Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Siena and many more places to see. We were sad to leave the hotel Villa staff as all have been wonderful. We will definitely return and also recommend to stay here

We booked this through Easyjet and the location showed as within the walls of Lucca which is where we wanted to be. Once booked we realised the mistake and that it says a 15 min car ride from the centre of Lucca, but decided to keep the booking when we had a proper look at hotel, which was am old hunting lodge. On arrival we were so pleased that Easyjet had messed up with the location as we found our "peace of Tuscan heaven". What a stunning hotel in a peaceful, stunning location. Traditional Tuscan building, furnished with beautiful pieces. We travelled with two other couples and all of our rooms were beautiful, clean and spacious. The staff were amazing and were always helpful, pleasant and informative. The restaurant is amazing and worth a try. At the end of a busy day exploring, the bar area and outside terrace was a lovely place to relax and have a drink or two. John Lucca (apologies if name spelled wrong) is a charismatic member of staff who we loved and he looked after us, as did Sarah. The pool area and grounds are stunning and there is a converted chapel that is a suite which I would love to stay in. If I ever get married, I would not hesitate to book this hotel as there is nothing that I can find fault with. Truly perfect in every way and we will definitely be coming back next year. Well done Albergo Villa Marta.... You have done us proud! ❤️👍🏻

My wife and I lived in Italy for three years when I worked at the U.S. Embassy in Rome and finally returned this past week after 23 years. After a few days in Rome, and Montepulciano we headed north to Lucca and stayed overnight for three nights in the beautiful Albergo Villa Marta on Via del Ponte Guasperini, 873, which included a scrumptious breakfast. Villa Marta is an eighteenth-century hunting lodge located just five kilometers from the city of Lucca. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the General Manager Francesco Domenici could not have been more accommodating. The Botton D’Oro restaurant inside the hotel is excellent under the tutelage of restaurant manager Jon Lucca, who along with his staff, repeatedly went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The food and wine were superb and the service top-notch. We highly recommend this Villa and on a scale of 1 to 10 give it a 22.

We had a wonderful stay at Villa Marta! The room was very nice with a big bathroom and a nice view of the nearby scenery. We really enjoyed relaxing at the pool and it was very convenient to have the restaurant on the property since we didn’t have a car. The olive oil there was soo delicious we ate it at every meal! Breakfast buffet was also great! We ordered taxis to get back and forth to town and other sites which the hotel was super helpful in scheduling. Overall it was a great stay! Thanks so much!

While the Villa is in a wonderful setting and the rooms are clean and adequately furnished, the dining room is not up to the quality expected of such a medium priced established. The breakfasts in particular could be enhanced by more in seasonal fresh fruits and better quality cold cuts of prosciutto and smoked salmon. Service in the restaurant, while friendly, was not well organized. We were also disappointed that complimentary water was not provided in the rooms.. During our extended stay we ate only once at the restaurant as we found better value for money dining experience at a local restaurant some 700 metres from the villa.

Hello, the hotel is located about 5km far from Lucca's train station. A taxi costs about 20/25EUR. Usually we suggest to rent a car that is needed to explore the area.
About 30 minutes.
On Friday, during the summer, the buses are at 5.38pm or 7.38pm. The bus stop is far about 800m from the hotel. The last bus from Lucca is at 7.40pm.
to walk it is a bit to far away but they have bicycles and it takes you only 20 minutes easy biking!
also there is a restaurant really 200 meters away.
All the rooms have a private bathroom with the shower.
