What can I say, it’s just fantastic. Marco, who owns the place is so welcoming, the staff are great, the guests are all very friendly. The pool is absolutely perfect. Yes it’s cool water, but it’s all clean, inside and out. Lots of lovely chairs to recline in also. We have two girls, both usually complain they are bored, not a word from either of them and we are 5 days here so far ! :) It’s a villa hotel, so you get that sense when you arrive, but honestly so what :). The rooms are all nice, we had one on the ground floor, meaning we had our own terrace, we also had the option to go out the back straight to the pool. The views here are simply amazing, I can’t even put into words how amazing the views are. You really do get a sense you are taking a break. The atmosphere here is so good, you just get that wonderful sense of relaxation. You really do unplug :) Now for food: You have breakfast at 0830 - 0930. It’s the usual coffee, tea, cakes, croissants, and a selection of fruits. A buffet, and it’s more than fine. For lunch it’s between 13:00 - 14:00 either a light bruschetta, or you can ask the staff and they will make a pasta dish for the kids if required:). We have one very fussy eater, she has so far eaten everything served! For dinner it’s usually between 2030 - 2230 but if your feeling hungry sooner no problem the staff can make you something nice :) Drinks wise, there is a bar there, you can order wines, champagne, Prosecco, spirits etc, and of course all the usual soft drinks also :) There are taxis you can order also to Lucca, or Pisa if you want to explore, ideally though I would advise renting a car if you can. Again a fabulous place, great staff, amazing views. Above all though, it recharges your soul !…
As a well travelled person, worldwide and throughout the UK, this is a perfect destination for peace, tranquility and a home from home feeling. I could highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling in Tuscany. You are inspired by the welcome and the comfort throughout the hotel and grounds. So much so that you are very loathed to move away from the hotel at all. There are so many places you can escape to within the hotel complex. It doesn’t take long to feel at home in this wonderfully restored location. A big thank you to Marco, owner and manager, for looking after us so well, and also his delightful wife. The other staff were friendly and very willing to help in any way. Everything added up to a wonderful holiday. We are planning a return visit already.
Marco was useless, no customer skills whatsoever. Room was OK but needed a freshen up! Pool was green despite reading it was open all year round. Dinner very limited, had lasagne but it was cold so after looking for staff to ask they heat it had to go in the kitchen where I found Marco and handed it to him. On a good note the views are stunning but whole experience ruined by marrco"s lack of interest. Left after 1 "night despite booking for 3! Would give it 2 star at a push due to stunning views
This hotel has a fantastic location and view over the area from the pool and many rooms. Good location for trips to Firenze, Lucca and Vinci. The whole hotel has been refurbished to a very high standard. What a pity that staff seems not to be really “turned-on” and enthusiasm was not present😕 So we checked out a couple of days earlier than originally planned.
We are a very well travelled family and in our view, Villa Volpi was an amazing stay and great value for money. The location is just stunning. The hotel is very well kept and is obviously loved by Marco it’s owner. We read the previous reviews about Marco and think them rather unfair. Marco is quirky but in a lovely way. Relax and understand that this is a laid back Italian gem and you will have a fab time. Make sure you try the wine and olive oil prepared by the hotel farm, truly delicious. All in all, a big thumbs up from us.
We read lots of negative reviews here on Tripadvisor, but still booked 3 nights here anyway. The descriptions of Marco are accurate - the guy is a real Italian: surly and uninterested, I don't think he really wants to be there. BUT....as long as you are happy with your room and don't need to get anything from him, you won't mind! We checked in, liked our air-conditioned room (in a small separate building just across from the original monastery) and the view was stunning. Food in the restaurant was mediocre, but we have kids and really just want something they can eat so we didn't mind. Booked a taxi and travelled down the hill one night to the Michelin-starred Ristorante Butterly in Lucca, which should have been a real treat, but wasn't great, and we regretted spending all that money when the food would have been fine in the hotel! Granted I think the experience was worsened by arriving at Ristorante Butterfly to find they did not offer seating indoors (it was late July and still roasting at 8pm) and I spent the evening being eaten alive by bugs. The pool was small but once again had stunning views - definitely Insta-worthy. Overall had a lovely time there, and if you fancy being amused by the incompetence of Marco then book it for sure!…
We had a family wedding to attend in the area. Visiting from the USA this place seemed ideal from the description. But as other reviewers pointed out the management is useless. For the price and rating of this hotel one would expect way more. The breakfast staff were unfriendly and the breakfast was at best so so. We paid close to 400 Euro per night for the best room the property yet our toiletries were not replenished once for the five days that we stayed. Disgrace. And then to have the nerve to charge per use for pool towels. I refused to even use the pool for more than once. No effort made to relate to the guests and the air conditioning struggled to cool our guest quarters sufficiently. The location was wonderful but the atmosphere with overworked staff and poor attention to guests needs made our stay unpleasant. …
To start with, this accommodation is not a 4 or 5 star hotel. The location is amazing with stunning views from every part of the accommodation. Unfortunately the lack of any customer service / hospitality as displayed by the owner of hotel Marco, let's this entire 'hotel' down. Realistically from the moment we arrived we should have trusted our gut instinct and gone elsewhere but after a long journey in 37 degrees the thought of searching for somewhere else late in the day didn't appeal to us. We arrived at 2.50pm to find not one member of staff anywhere in the complex. No one was at the reception area, no one in the restaurant or bar, no one at the pool area. I then rang the hotel and phone was answered by Marco ' check in doesn't open until 3pm. I'll be there in 10 minutes. Funny that, check in according to the note at the check in desk says 2.30pm. Anyhow we waited and waited and then at 3.20 Marco arrived. No apology for keeping us waiting, no welcome or greeting...nothing. Marco was extremely rude and made us feel very unwelcome. I asked him where all the staff were. 'They are all very tired...so they have a couple of days off! Seriously?! This is August...high season and you've no staff! He showed us to our room which was supposed to be a suite. It was very basic, decorated in a mix of colours from green curtains, peach walls, red chair, brown bed spread etc etc...room felt old and worn. Only saving grace was the view. We went to find Marco to check if there was a bigger room available. After 15 minutes of looking for him, he showed us a bigger room. We said we'd take it. He disappeared off...we then discovered that there was no air con in the children's sleep area. Another 15 minutes of searching for missing Marco...he then said the air con 'half' works...eh, no thank you Marco...why would we pay extra for that....oh and by the way you pay extra for towels for the pool. Very cheeky considering we paid 300 euro per night for our room. The breakfast was good but we didn't try the restaurant as Marco left us we such a bad feeling that we couldn't bring ourselves to try the restaurant. The next day I went to ask for extra pillows. Marco was on the phone and continued talking for 10 minutes without even acknowledging me. Eventually he got off the phone and disappeared for another 10 mins to get pillows. About 2 mins later I went to get two beers and guess what no Marco...Marco gone...another ten mins etc etc...you get my drift. Couldn't wait to check out this morning. Upon check out he didn't even enquire about our stay....says it all really. I've travelled extensively all over the world and I have never met anyone like Marco...unique for all the wrong reasons. My advice...do not stay here totally overpriced, no staff and rooms very basic for what they charge. Buy a picnic in the local town drive up to the hills and enjoy the view...for free! There are much better places to stay than here. Good luck Marco....you'll need it!…
Beautiful place, super swimming pool, luxury view and perfect garden but really, really bad service from the owner side. With price, which is asked, I have to have another level of service!!! The rooms with musty smell. Restaurant was closed, it wasn't possible to get lunch and dinner which is part of this hotel. Just to get something to drink was a small miracle. The products made by the owner - olives, oil, vine - are really excellent, but you almost can't catch them, because you are not able to catch anybody to serve them. This is the real pity, because the place is lovely!
It's old monastery and the complex is absolutely awesome. The most amazing and breathtaking view we've ever seen! It's on top of the hill, close to Lucca, Pisa and other local villages to step out for dinner (you need to have a car as everywhere in Tuscany). The owner is welcoming guests, staff is super friendly. The place, complex, location, view, historical spirit makes this place absolutely awesome! They make own prosecco, wine, olive oils, it's an experience. The rooms are as usual in Tuscany, good and clean, nothing unusual, simply good and enough to have great time. Breakfast is good and you have it with the view! Oh Dear! Most Amazing View Ever!!!
