Perfect place to explore Lucca. Quiet, clean and very well decorated. The gym had new equipment with full weight set. Everything you would expect from an Autograph Collection. Special thanks to the outstanding service from Manuel, William and Vanessa!!
Booking made 2 days prior to stay. Was able to book 20k points for 1 weekend night. Arrived to check-in around 2pm. The hotel is located in historic Lucca, which is in between Pisa and Florence (closer to Pisa). The parking here is a bit tricky since the property is located within the historic city walls, which is classified as a ZTL (zona traffico limitate, which basically means don't bring your rental here). If you're arriving by train, no biggie, but you might need a taxi if you have lots of luggage. Check in was smooth, and my status was recognized with a welcome drink, bonus points, and breakfast at the in house restaurant. I was upgraded prior to check-in to a Maestro 1 bedroom suite on the 1st floor (109), and upon walking in was greeted with a personlized message thanking me for being an Ambassador member. The room is a 2 level room, which I particularly enjoyed, but may not be for everyone given the stairs, but both the bed and the living room have view of the small square outside the hotel. The furnishings are quite nice, and feel somewhat contemporary given some of the classical Tuscan furnishings of other fine hotels in the area. I very much like the fresh feel and use of color. There's a bathroom downstairs and upstairs, of which the lower level has the shower, and the upper a nice large bath tub. Custom accoutrments such as branded bathrobe definitely show the propery is paying attention to detail. A cool addition to the bathrooms was a towel that was like the napkins you get at a nice restaurant, and it sits on top of the normal face towel. Super cool idea on that one. There's plenty of closet space, and there's actually a iron and ironing board, which seem to be less and less common in luxury properties these days. I appreciate this very much. As of May 1st, the rooftop terrace is open for a drink, although EUR30 for cocktail seems quite steep if you ask me. The gym is located on the 3rd floor, and is small but can help you burn the calories you need after having that mid-day fococcia. Breakfast was wonderful as I sat outside in the beatuful weather. The spread was typical Italian, with many American staples as well. All in all, a very pleasant and easy stay at this property, I'll definitely be coming back!! ps, in 109 the AC vent upstairs blows directly to the bed, so you just might freeze to death lol, I slept like a baby!!…
There is little reason to look for another hotel in Lucca, as this one is wonderful. Matteo at concierge is a true professional and makes you feel instantly at home. Vanessa also welcoming and quite helpful. Location on two piazzas, excellent breakfast and tasteful renovations make this hotel hard to beat. We will certainly be returning!
Absolutely stunning hotel in the heart of Lucca. Me and my husband had a perfect weekend here from start to finish. The staff are outstanding and the turndown service was an extra-special touch after a busy day exploring the town. This hotel is definitely worth a stay if you are visiting Lucca. Grazie.
We have stayed in the Grand Universe for 5 days and it is wonderful! Right in the heart of the city walls and close to everything. Wonderful restaurant in the hotel with a great breakfast buffet and very reasonable prices. The rooms are spacious but without a desk. Recently renovated and very nice.
Beautiful little hotel in Lucca, Italy. Great Location. Close to the train station with an easy train ride to Pisa or Cinque Terra. Lucca is a charming city. We were so happy we decided to spend three nights here. Highly recommend. Service was outstanding. Breakfast was delicious. Front desk staff was more than accommodating--really wanted to make sure we had the best stay.
We were 2 nights in Lucca and the Hotel was so inviting we were tempted to stay longer. Centrally located, within minutes of the major attractions, Lovely views over the Piazza. Less than 10 minutes easy walk to train station. Don't miss the Puccini Experience just around the corner from the hotel, especially if you are an opera buff.
Wonderful experience from check in to check out. Beautifully situated on 2 piazzas, it offers an openness not usually found in centro storico. Staff is exceptional across the board…Vanessa at the front desk, Alessandro at the bar, the concierge the bellman… Great common areas from the lobby to bar, patio, restaurant, wine cellar and rooftop bar. Finally, rooms have style and class. High ceilings, quality furnishings and soft goods. If you meet George, the GM it’s clear how this constellation of people and product is finessed into an unforgettable stay. We haven’t stayed at any other Lucca hotels and I expect we never will. Thank you Grand Universe team!
This converted palazzo has been very recently renovated and feels brand new. The rooms have outstanding views of the piazza, and the hotel itself is situated in the very heart of everything. We had a corner junior suite, with soaring ceilings and windows. You can pop up to the rooftop on the 4th floor for breathtaking views of the city, the Cathedrals and the surrounding hills. Matteo and his colleagues on the front desk gave us 3 restaurant recommendations…each one different and all were truly wonderful. Riccardo in the sleek bar makes great aperitivos served with some olives and parmigiana. We have been coming to Italy for years- this was our first visit to Lucca and we are already planning our return in the Fall. The Grand Universe hotel is the major reason for this.
This beautiful, new hotel is located in the center of Lucca. Rooms are beautiful, the breakfast is wonderful and the management is professional and friendly. A terrific choice when visiting the Lucca area. Many think that Lucca is just a day trip or a one nighter--I think the town deserves more time. And the hotel is certainly the prefect place to stay. Antonia is the perfect hostess and makes the stay even better.
