I stayed here for 3 nights over a weekend during my first trip to Florence. My flight arrived quite late, so I took a taxi to avoid late-night navigation. The fare was 25€ one-way. The location is OK - on a busy enough street so that I felt safe walking alone to/from the hostel even close to midnight. The hotel...

Good location- easy walk to Florence Santa Maria train station and the Duomo etc. Very friendly helpful staff. Hostel is pretty shabby though, for example the blankets need to be replaced. Be warned none of the lockers in the rooms lock properly- even with padlocks the handles twist open. A lot of older people in their 50s and 60s here...

Great place to stay. Great friendly service. Very clean, affordable and very hospitable "hostel" !!!, wow. Anytime you walk in you feel home. There is always a full fruit bowel, juice, coffee and tea facilities. Rooms could have been bigger though. It is a fantastic hostel to stay at to explore beautiful Florence "Firenze". I have been there twice this...

I LOVED my stay. It's about a 10/15 minute walk from the train station, but very easy to find. The hostel is inside a sort of office block building and is super secure. I stayed in the female only dorms which are in its own private wing. Staff were extremely friendly, offering advice about the city. Free food and drink...

Gallo d'Oro is an example of everything a hostel should be. Quiet, comfortable, and clean with friendly staff and patrons making it ideal for the solo traveller. Excellent free food as well. Location could be better.

The location of this hostel was great! I walked everywhere, from train station to all the sights. If you don't like to walk that much, there are many bus stops near the hostel. I had booked a 6-bed dorm, which was quite small but functional. There was a large bathroom in the room. A nice breakfast was included and they...

Location is so so in a quiet area about 20 mins walk from train station. There's not a great deal around the hostel but the area is safe. Clean and modern hostel. Dorms are comfortable and quiet, they make your bed every day. Lockers are provided, the dorms are locked and a code is needed to access the rooms so...

I stayed there for only two nights. But you can see, right away, that this place is clean and well organized. The breakfast is very good, the common bathroons as well. The wifi works properly too. I absolutly recomend to anyone that goes to Florence!

Very clean, bright and spacious. You feel pretty far from duomo and that area, unfortunately. The individual bed lights are so bright that they make the whole rooms light up so they need to do something about that so people in shared rooms can sleep while others are up all night with the light on. Also, need heavier blankets without...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.

“Our room (room 1) was literally right outside of the breakfast/common room and lobby. It was pretty noisy all of the time, with people checking in/out, people hanging out the common room late at night and then others up early eating breakfast the next morning. It wasn't a huge deal (it's a hostel), but light sleepers or families may want to see if they can request a room further away.”
