In city as beautiful as Florence, one needs to find appropriately stylish accommodation. Casa Howard meets this criteria and more. Stunning location and elegant rooms with lovely special touches (the exquisite santa maria novella soaps and shampoo). I had the terrace room for four nights in October. It may not be the biggest room but it was perfect, with a...

Everything was perfect, I loved the place, the decoration, the facilities and the two women on charge are fantastic, very nice and helpfull. The best taste in the decoration and the best service in comfort. The website shows what it is and when you arrive to the place and see the rooms you realize that is even better. Massimiliano and...

My friend Lee and I had the pleasure of staying at all three of the Casa Howard locations during our holiday in Italy in June. We were very well taken care of by Edgar in Rome and Christina in Florence. I especially fell in love with the guest house in Florence because of its larger rooms and stately aura. Every...

This is a slightly unorthodox place. If you like it, you'll love it. What's good about it? * The rooms and the common parts are decorated in an original and very stylish manner. Just as the blurb says, it seems like you're staying in a very chic (and rich) friend's place, not a hotel. (The pictures on the website are...

We stayed in the Fireplace Room which was great -- just how it looks on the internet site -- very spacious and quirky. The bathroom was fantastic -- the stand-alone bath was a real treat. Great location (just two minutes from railway station and five minutes from city centre). Casa Howard's website stresses that it isn't a hotel, and they...

We wanted a base in Florence very near the train station (Firenze S.M.N.) and within walking distance of the Ponte Vechio, Uffizi, etc. Casa Howard gave us this plus the experience of 'living Italian'. You are right on a typical street with three different locks for security and the view of a local bar. The owner is a fashion model...

Can't recommend the guest house enough - just a short walk from Frienze SMN station it's like living in your own little Florentine hide away but all the attractions just minutes away. The house is beautiful, airy and elegant and the house keeper is friendly and helpful. I would certainly go back and try some of the other show piece...

This place has a very exclusive feel about it and is very quirky with the individually styled rooms. Good location and if you like something different to the corporate feel of most four and five star hotels then this is the place for you. The service and friendliness was lovely too.

Casa Howard in Florence was a bitter disappointment. Unfortunately the very seductive website sells you something that it is not. Firstly this is not a luxury boutique hotel by any means. It is a mere rented room. Having read on the website that there was no lobby I imagined other things would compensate (because of the price), eg-: the breakfast,...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
CASA HOWARD Guest Houses – Rome and Florence The Art of Hospitality. Casa Howard Guest Houses are not hotels. Each Casa Howard is a beautiful private house, in an outstanding location whether an apartment, palazzo or farmhouse, which gives personal service, and where some typically "hotel" ideas, methods and services have been borrowed. With uniquely designed, cosy rooms it’s like staying in a very relaxed, stylish friend’s home – as guests you get the keys of the house, you enjoy the original furniture and objects, you feel the atmosphere of the house. A mix of quality-to-price ratio, uniqueness of location, private home heritage and introduced guests approach deserved Casa Howard many featuring on the international press. Last but not least, CH are now in the bestselling 1000 Places to See before You die !!• A SENSORIAL EXPERIENCE : how different is the feeling of spending some days in a real private house rather than in a public grand hotel, in the top art city of the world! LUXE: we may not define CH a luxury place, rather a true exclusive place (nonetheless we are featured on most of the luxury guidebooks in the world, like the LUXE city book of Grant Thatcher or the LOUIS VUITTON guidebook). Casa Howard (Florence) is located close to Santa Maria Novella, Casa Howard (Rome) close to the Spanish Steps – the ideal spots for accessing the city’s profusion of architectural treasures and shopping! Urban chic close to the action. Suave and surprising, the Casa Howard is located close to the Santa Maria Novella – an ideal spot for accessing the city’s profusion of architectural treasures. This is a Guest House, it is not in the hotel category (e.g. they do not have a concierge, nor do they provide porters etc); it is a private family’s houses partially opened to introduced paying guests. Former guests have a priority booking channel. A mix of quality-to-price ratio, uniqueness of location, private home heritage, and introduced guests approach deserved Casa Howard some awards and many many featuring on international press. It is an intriguing mix of private mansion and hip hotel, providing guest accommodation in stylish apartments. Eco attitude : see down *All the original floors and ceilings have been maintained, there are flourishes of pure silk taffeta at the windows, and many love the chic designer touches such as the occasional black silk sofa, sunken marble bath, full-wall padded bed head, mosaic inlay or 18th century French writing desk. For relaxation after a day’s exploration along the Via Tornabuoni, unwind in the hammam. ... more   less
