Planning our honeymoon I discovered Casa Howard in a couple of guides. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about staying in a place without full hotel service. I though we can find ourselves abandoned if any problem arise in the middle of the night. But our experience in both locations was the entire opposite; we were...

We were looking for something special but very tranquil and as we entered the room through my wife gasped at hte beauty of it. Our room was the fireplace room and like the rest of Casa Howard brings together two greats of boutique properties - great quality and unique features. The roll top double bath in front of the fireplace...

My wife and I wanted an opulent but private place to stay on our last holiday before our child was born, and Casa Howard fitted the bill perfectly. It's wonderfully situated, gloriously (and inventively) decorated and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. It felt like we'd found the ultimate hidden gem - everything you'd want for a romantic few...

This guesthouse is a fantastic alternative to the traditional hotel. Located in walking distance to train station and most of Florence's attractions, this is a great option if you want a quiet place to retreat to after a full day of absorbing the city's richness. We stayed in the Drawing Room. We loved the stylishly decorated room and fully mirrored...

What a Room! Casa Howard Florance, Italy is a special place. Their attention to detail is great. Our Suite and the service we received made us feel special. The fireplace, flat screen TV, and all appointments were perfect. The bathroom was larger than many hotel room in Europe. Add in that Casa Howard is perfectly located and you've got a...

Having been to Florence a number of times, we found out about this jewel of a property through a magazine that said it was THE place to stay--specifically if you were coming to Italy for the shows. The hotel in Florence makes you feel as if you are friends with a rich Florentine who is letting you use his property...

We went to Florence for my mother's 60th birthday and had a great time. The Casa Howard is a perfect place to stay if you a) love tasteful modern design b) like a central but quiet location c) have no need for amenities of a big hotel like spa, pool, hotel restaurant. The live-in staff at the Casa Howard was...

Santa fe, New Mexico/kseres2002@yahoo.cm I brought my three children (age 17 & 22 & 25) to the Casa Howard in Florence for five days in June, and it was the most amazing place ever for all of us! We had been all over Italy and it was by far one of our favorite places we stayed. To begin with, the...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
CASA HOWARD Guest Houses – Rome and Florence The Art of Hospitality. Casa Howard Guest Houses are not hotels. Each Casa Howard is a beautiful private house, in an outstanding location whether an apartment, palazzo or farmhouse, which gives personal service, and where some typically "hotel" ideas, methods and services have been borrowed. With uniquely designed, cosy rooms it’s like staying in a very relaxed, stylish friend’s home – as guests you get the keys of the house, you enjoy the original furniture and objects, you feel the atmosphere of the house. A mix of quality-to-price ratio, uniqueness of location, private home heritage and introduced guests approach deserved Casa Howard many featuring on the international press. Last but not least, CH are now in the bestselling 1000 Places to See before You die !!• A SENSORIAL EXPERIENCE : how different is the feeling of spending some days in a real private house rather than in a public grand hotel, in the top art city of the world! LUXE: we may not define CH a luxury place, rather a true exclusive place (nonetheless we are featured on most of the luxury guidebooks in the world, like the LUXE city book of Grant Thatcher or the LOUIS VUITTON guidebook). Casa Howard (Florence) is located close to Santa Maria Novella, Casa Howard (Rome) close to the Spanish Steps – the ideal spots for accessing the city’s profusion of architectural treasures and shopping! Urban chic close to the action. Suave and surprising, the Casa Howard is located close to the Santa Maria Novella – an ideal spot for accessing the city’s profusion of architectural treasures. This is a Guest House, it is not in the hotel category (e.g. they do not have a concierge, nor do they provide porters etc); it is a private family’s houses partially opened to introduced paying guests. Former guests have a priority booking channel. A mix of quality-to-price ratio, uniqueness of location, private home heritage, and introduced guests approach deserved Casa Howard some awards and many many featuring on international press. It is an intriguing mix of private mansion and hip hotel, providing guest accommodation in stylish apartments. Eco attitude : see down *All the original floors and ceilings have been maintained, there are flourishes of pure silk taffeta at the windows, and many love the chic designer touches such as the occasional black silk sofa, sunken marble bath, full-wall padded bed head, mosaic inlay or 18th century French writing desk. For relaxation after a day’s exploration along the Via Tornabuoni, unwind in the hammam. ... more   less
