I have to say there is a serious problem with finding a hotel in Italy. Cheap means horrible service. Middle priced means horrible service and expensive means slightly acceptable service. Hotel Toscana was not an exception. All they can offer is the location 15 minutes walk from the station. Rooms are extremely small, the bathroom had a retractable structure that... More

Having trusted the very reasonable reviews on another travel site, I can honestly say that some people must have appallingly low standards. I was not expecting a great deal given what we paid but it still manged to disappoint in every way. First impressions were not great, a dingy hall leading it seemed to two different hotels via a stairway... More

We booked an apartment at this hotel, paid for the booking and when we arrived they said the air-conditioning wasn't working and gave us 3 little rooms instead, the beds were uncomfortable and the pillows quite smelly. When we complaint, the guy at the reception somehow unlearned English and was very angry that we weren't going to accept the deal.... More

Come in yesterday by midnight left -bedbugs in room. refunded us but what a hassle. Lost night of sleep looking for another place & morning talking with them to get money back! Beds looked clean, but weren't! Room 1 & 3. No pics took video. Beware.

Booked through budgetplaces.com as bed and breakfast hotel. They did not serve breakfast or have any facilities for tea/coffee. Rundown and scruffy, more like a hostel than any hotel I've stayed in. Photos and discription are misleading. Avoid this place and avoid the booking website they should be ashamed of this '2 star' establishment.

I did not get the chance to stay at this hotel because they refused to confirm my booking (without reason), after I had already transferred the whole amount to their bank account (as directed on their website, to the personal account of the owner-- strange?). I have contacted them 5 times via email and have never received a response, and... More

The hotel's excellent location and reasonable price were the best features. The bed was only slightly wider than a single bed -- it wasn't a double bed so our sleep wasn't very comfortable. The price ended up being 10 euro more than the price given on Budgetplaces.

The first thing that hits you at Hotel Toscana is the smell. An overpowering air freshener is used to cover the odour of the filthy reception area. The people who own Toscana also manage a number of other hotels / youth hostels around this part of Florence, which have all passed there useful life and should either by refurbished or... More

Very good location, few minutes walk to the center of Florence and few minutes away from the train station. Very small 'small double room' with tiny bed almost impossible for two people to sleep normally . It's not very safe/ I would recommend it for very short stays.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
