This hotel was listed in Frommer's Italy 2010 as an "insider's value" and stated that the hotel had been recently renovated. The renovations seemed to be quite sub-par and only in the bathrooms. The shower was cheaply made and nearly fell apart completely, the showerhead actually fell off twice. The air conditioner hardly did anything, though the whole of Italy...

A small hotel on the edge of the historic district but easily within walking distance of the main attractions and just over the road from the central terminus on a quiet side street. Quiet except on Saturdays nights, when the constant buzzing of passing mopeds was a nuisance but this is the case in any city centre hotel in Italy....

This small hotel was just what we wanted. Small, personal, with lovely helpful staff. The room was spacious (ours had a balcony which overlooked a garden) and cleaned to perfection each day, with lovely fluffy clean towels each day too. In a quiet location, and was very quiet and peaceful when we visited for 10 days. Easy to get from the...

Spent 2 nights in the Vasari on a trip to Florence. After a sweaty train trip it was nice to see the hotel was practically across the road from the station. Room was very clean. Crisp white linen is a big sell for me! A stocked minibar with a price card was a nice bonus. Bathroom was newly spruced up....

Very attentive staff; breakfast is a bit poor in variation. Free internet available, small in courtyard parking for about 6 to 7 cars available. On walking distance to both train station and the city centre. Follow the advice of the staff on the nice restaurants to eat, they were to our liking and quite affordable as well. The rooms are...

The room was smallish but comfortable and hotel is on a relatively quiet street. Very comfortable queen sized bed. Small refrigerator helped save money on the occasional meal as there was a grocery store nearby. The hotel is close enough to walk to the major churches, museums and train stations. The continental breakfast was hearty and had a good assortment...

Excellent hotel! 5 min away from Firenze SMN station and a short walk to all major sights. The room was clean and cozy, also well maintained. The breakfast was amazing, with freshly brewed caffe or cappuccino as you ordered! The staff were all very helpful and courteous.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
