Although it's a bit out of the way (15 min walk to the Duomo) it was worth it. The room was beautifully decorated, the breakfast was generous (for Italy) and they had classical music playing in the lobby all day. It felt very homey. It was also nice to escape from the crazy center of town back to a quieter...

I stayed here in July 2008 in a single room. My travelling partners also stayed here in a double room. The main reason we chose this place was due to the photos and the very reasonable price (75 euro per night for the single and 99 per euro for the double room). First up, getting fom the train station cost...

An amazing, beautiful, safe, convienent, and hospitable place to stay!!!!!!! We arrived at the Johanna after a long flight and a horrible afternoon at the airport dealing with lost luggage. The staff, especially Loredanna, allowed us to find a bit of comfort on an otherwise miserable day. She and the gorgeously decorated room, made us feel completly at ease. An...

Very nice place! We traveled with our two teenagers and the whole family felt cozy at home. Very clean place, interesting furniture, nice people and allways good classical music and a tray with tea and cakes.

My two adult daughters and I stayed in a triple room, that was very large, and nice. It isn't as elegant as the pictures indicate, but we were great with it because it was clean and well-located. The staff is very sweet and helpful, and the breakfast is not fancy, but very adequate. Yes -- it is not marked well,...

My husband and I, along with another couple, booked the Johanna I in Florence for the last leg of a fabulous 3 week trip. We were excited about staying at this property as it looked absolutely beautiful from the photos on the web-site. When we got to the address, we had trouble finding the B&B because the gate to the...

Very nice place, especially the room with the four post bed. Breakfast is also very nice and service is lovely. Can walk to the sites and centre fairly easily. Quiet and peaceful part of town. A perfect base to stay for a relatively cheap florence experience!

My son, who is on college, and I stayed at this residenza for five nights in May. It is in a residental section of Florence, and there was a band practicing until midnight two nights while we were there (just like you might find back home!) Except there were no police to call since they were playing after the noise...

My husband and I stayed at Residenza Johanna 1 in late April/May 2008, for 12 nights and found it to be an excellent base for our exploration of Florence. It was in a quiet street, but still quickly accessible to the train station, and all the major sights and restaurants. From the Residenza we could easily walk to all the...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
