My son and his wife honeymooned in Florence last month and I had made all the arrangements in advance. The hotel staff was incredibly helpful to me with the booking and room selection and everything went smoothly. The couple LOVED the hotel and were thrilled that their room looked out onto the facade of the Cathedral. I can't say enough...

We stayed at the HSMN for 7 nights in the middle of our two-week Italian honeymoon and it was truly lovely. They upgraded us to the honeymoon suite which has a private terrace overlooking the piazza and is bigger than apartments I've lived in. The staff was helpful for getting reservations and printing out our online tickets. The breakfast is...

This hotel is surprisingly close to the train station. Do not be fooled like we were into taking a taxi. This was our favorite hotel on our 3 city trip to Italy. The first room we were given smelled bad and it seemed to get worse with time. When I complained, we were quickly offered another room and the problem...

My husband and I recently stayed at the Santa Maria Novella Hotel in a 'suite with a view'. Reaching the hotel via a car:- The hotel's website does not indicate how difficult it is to reach the hotel in a car. If you intend to drive to Florence, you may wish to consider choosing a hotel outside of the inner...

We truly enjoyed our time staying here! It is very close to the train, which is convenient, as well as close to all the big sights you want to see while in Florence! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious, the best we had in all of our Italian hotels. Actually had eggs which was a nice...

We stayed at this hotel when we were in Florence for a conference. It was a great hotel with very professional staff. The breakfast included fresh fruit, meat, cheese, croissants and other sweet treats, cereal as well as eggs. The choice was certainly good. On the Saturday morning we decided that we wanted to go visit a museum the next...

We very recently returned from a 10 day visit to Tuscany and chose this hotel for our 3 nights stay in Florence. We treated ourselves to a deluxe room with view and were so glad we did. Really worth it! Our room was large with high ceilings and the marble bathroom was a bit of a 'wow!' - huge bath...

This hotel was fabulous !!! Steps away from the train station in the middle of a beautiful piazza. Perfectly located just blocks from the Duomo. In actuality, its a short distance to every attraction, David, Uffizi, and let's not forget you MUST have one meal at IL Latini. Hotel Santa Maria Novella and IL Latini were to best part of...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
