I was rolling solo for two nights in Florence and so stayed in this hotel on the first night. Right along the Arno River, this hotel is a total gem! Inside a mixed-use building, you take the elevator up to the 5th floor to enter. It is very simple, no frills here but the views from rooms 405-415 are incredible.... More

For a 2* hotel, this is an excellent choice. I booked it last minute, got a good price and was very pleased with the service when there. I arrived at midday, hours before their allotted arrival time yet my room was ready and I was warmly welcomed. I was exhausted from an early flight and so was given a free... More

Stayed at this 2 star hotel at the end of august and beginning of Sept with my husband. It s not a normal hotel but it s a good price, very close to ponte vecchio, clean and with a LOVELY view of the Arno. If you re not looking for a fancy hotel it s perfect to visit Florence without... More

I stayed here for a week and as it is rated by the Italian government, it is a solid 2 star. I was given a room overlooking the Arno. The bed was comfortable, room spacious enough and cleaned very well daily. The shower is quite small, but not unusually so for Europe, but I do wish there was a shelf... More

This hotel is located on the banks of the Arno. It is on the 4th floor. On arrival we had to stand outside for 10 minutes before any response from ringing the bell. The elevator is tiny. The rooms are clean but Spartan. The breakfast is lovely and ample. The WiFi doesn't work in the rooms. Very inconvenient.

The hotel is easy enough to find, walk to the river from the station, turn right 10 mins walk. Reception was manned by the owner, who greeted us with, hello, we have no water, the pipe is burst, they are mending it, I do not know if there will be breakfast tomorrow. Turns out that half the city had no... More

The hotel is short walk from the train station, in what seems to be an embassy/private residential area. Upon arrival, myself and my partner were surprised to find an empty and dark hallway with nothing resembling that of a hotel. It wasn't until the lift doors opened and the hotel manager himself stepped out and asked us if we were... More

The hotel occupies the 4th floor of a building overlooking the Arno River. Reached by caged elevator, the hotel is sleek, modern, clean and Antonio, who does everything, very helpful. We had a very nice room with private shower. The bathroom was huge with a bidet, shower, sink and toilet. The breakfast was very good. The only drawback was the... More

The hotel is on the 4th floor of a nice building facing the river. It's a short walk to the train station. Dated but functional. An update to bathroom and room décor would make a huge difference. It's a walk to the Duomo but we had no problem with that. The host is very pleasant and most helpful. He made... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
