As usual, I trusted Tripadvisor and chose Hotel Giglio for a short stay in Florence with my 17 year old son. I have never felt let down by the reviews of previous hotels I have used but this one more than matched the many plaudits it has received. For the money we paid, this is a jewel, a remarkable find....

It would be a good hotel for €80 per night, but it is far more expensive. The amount I mention is not incidental, as this is the price I heard the owner offering to someone asking for a room in the reception. You can imagine how disappointed I felt having paid €135 for a room with mosquitos (fortunately not aggressive)...

I recently returned from my trip to Italy. While in Florence, I unfortunately had my purse stolen. I can't thank Marco and Roberto enough for all their assistance. They had escorted me to the police department, called the Embassy, called the credit card company, and the next am, I was driven to the Embassy and eventually to the train station....

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The service cannot be beat and we cannot say enough fantastic things about the folks that run this place. They had great recommendations. The room was larger than we expected with nice high ceilings, and the bathroom was a good size. We were in Room 2 which I would not recommend for...

We tried to find a nice hotel in Florence for a reasonable price, Hotel Giglio exceeded our expectations. This is mainly because the staff were fantastic, very helpful in recommending tours and sights. They have internet available and we also got a ride back to the railway station which we hadn't expected. The room was better furnished than many of...

After a tiring walk from the railway station it was a relief to be swiftly checked into our high-ceilinged double room. When booking we had asked for a bathroom with a full sized bath tub, but we were delighted to find we had a whirlpool bath. This turned out to be a real bonus after long days of walking round...

i stayed for 3 nights in summer of 2008 and had a great time. Loved the location - close enough to the centre but far away from the noise and bustle of it (pleasant walk of about 15- 20 mins). I will always try and get back to florence and stay at giglio for at least a night when in...

A terrific hotel in an excellent location - just a fifteen minute walk to the Duomo. Huge room with far better audio-visual setup than I have at home! Very helpful staff, extensive breakfast, free internet access, even gave us a lift to the train station on departure. If I go back to Florence I shall be looking to stay here...

nice quiet little place, quiet comfortable, inside an old building. the service was very good, and the place had the friendliest and most helpful staff we have come across in Italy. We were offered a ride to the railway station when we checked out. the breakfast was good too. the only drawback however was that the place was decent walk...

Hotel Giglio is by far the most friendly hotel we've stayed at over the years. The hotel has a two person (or one person plus luggage) elevator and you are buzzed-inn from the street during the evening hours which is wonderful from a security perspective.Because it's a family owned hotel, the level of customer service is outstanding and Roberto and...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
