We have stayed here often. Hotel is lovely, location (near the huge outdoor market, indoor food market, 10 minute walk to the Duomo, also to the Academia to see Michelangelo's David) is great. Also just a few blocks from the train station (though on a quiet street). Hotel also has reduced fee arrangement with parking garage a block away. Nice...

We were in Florence to attend a conference and to have a few days vacation. The location of this hotel was perfect as it was close to the train station and to the conference venue. It was so easy to walk to all the old city attractions from this Hotel. It is also very handy to markets, restaurants, shops, banks...

Very convenient to the train station. It is an easy walk to the city center. The rooms were large and cutely decorated. Our room had an outdoor space which was nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay here again. They even held our luggage at the hotel since our train wasn't leaving until later in the...

I can't speak highly enough of this hotel. It's gorgeous, the rooms are beautiful (ours was huge). The location is great, just a short walk to train station and shopping/sights. Staff were extremely helpful. My only regret is not having the time to stay longer. Florence is too of my list the next time I visit and we will be...

My husband and I with our two adult children stayed at Hotel Porta Faenza for 2 nights in July. This place was booked to a budget and we were very pleasantly surprised. Good sized room furnished traditionally. Bed comfortable. Kettle, mini bar, hairdryer, excellent free WiFi. Bathroom well equipped although shower a little weak. Pleasant reception welcome. Breakfast adequate. I doubt you'll get better value in Florence which is stupid expensive.

Initially, I found this hotel to be a little unsettling. For the first few visits to the lobby, it seemed we were the only people staying in the hotel and the front desk attendant was not particularly inviting. The comforters need to be replaced- our was scratchy and filthy. It was not a very romantic location and our towels seemed...

Classic furniture, beautiful ambience, friendly hostess, central location... This place was just great! The rooms were spacious, amenities available were fantastic... A good hotel in Florence can just make all the difference. This is also about 5 min walk from the central train station in case you want to do a day tour to Pisa, Chianti or Siena.

This hotel is close to the train station and is in a good location. Our room was small and the bathroom was very small. My brother asked to move to a larger room and the hotel did accommodate. The staff was very pleasant and gave assistance with directions and recommendations.

We booked what we expected to be a basic hotel but we were surprised to find how good it actually was. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hotel Porta Faenza is situated in Via Faenza - one of the earliest medieval streets in Florence - near Porta Faenza, a gate in the fifteenth-century city walls. It was created in 1997 through the restoration and conversion of Palazzo Pegna, the old residence of a family of merchants, whose original structure has been kept intact. Porta Faenza was part of the city walls and was situated at the end of what is up till now called Via Faenza. It has been so called not for being placed towards the town in Emilia, but from the name of the Nuns from Faenza, who had their convent in the neighbourhood once. Between 1534 and 1537 Porta Faenza was joined to the Fortezza da Basso without being demolished: by watching attentively you can still distinguish its squared profile in the central bastion towards the city or its arch from the inside of the fortress. The Hotel will make you savour the warm atmosphere of the old-time Florentine houses: the tile floor, the exposed beams, the old tools scattered everywhere, together with all the comforts will make it your ideal home in the old Florence. The Hotel Porta Faenza is centrally located, very close to the main railway station (Santa Maria Novella), to Palazzo dei Congressi (the Conference Centre) and to the Fortezza da Basso. The most interesting monuments and museums in Florence are within easy walking distance. For being situated in a pedestrian precinct, the Hotel is a quiet and pleasant place, the ideal point of departure for you to discover Florence and its artistic and cultural life. ... more   less
