My husband and I have stayed in many hotels across Europe (usually for less than 150-200 euros per night), and this is the best hotel we've ever encountered in Europe. The hotel is spotless and stunningly beautiful, and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The hotel recently underwent a renovation, making the common areas, floors, bathrooms - everything - lovely,...

Proximity to Santa Novella station was a key factor in our hotel choice; this was a 10-12 minute walk away. The hotel was clean, rooms were spacious (we were fortunate to have a balcony overlooking the garden that gets the sun in the morning), clean and air conditioned. Breakfast was good and plentiful, with amazing coffee! Free wifi in the...

It is great to hear you will be back with us! We would definitely love having you again. It seems you had one of the Superior rooms with balcony, we are glad you enjoyed it. Yes from April to October we have a bar outside on the terrace for the italian "aperitivo" like you said a pre-dinner drink with typical...

My daughter and I recently stayed here for a few nights, in one of the ground floor rooms off the courtyard, #77. The room was very large, with a sitting area, two twin beds, a dresser, and a flat screen TV on the wall. The bathroom was enormous, with both a stall shower and a bathtub, plus a toilet and...

Dear Guest, We appreciate the feedback written! I am happy you and your daughter both enjoyed your stay with us in one of our very modern Deluxe rooms. Yes the Hotel is very close to many nice "non- touristy" trattorias and the center of Florence, just a 10 minute walk. Hope to see you again! Thank you for recommending! Best...

My husband and I loved Hotel Orto De Medici. The room was clean, modern and spacious and the bathroom was beautiful with a large marble counter. The breakfast was served in a room upstairs with an outdoor patio which was lovely. The location was a bit north of the Piazza San Lorenzo, close to the Academia. It was quiet and...

Unfortunately, this hotel has sub-standard rooms marked as standard ones - and we got one. Our 'standard' room was tiny, dark, hot and had windows into a horrible internal 'light well'. This was not what we were expecting from a comparatively expensive hotel for the area (and the nice reception area). It was awful - had to have the light...

Dear Uk_Theo, Thank you for posting your review with photos. I think that client's photos are the best, the truest and perhaps the only ones that can really give an idea. I confirm that 2 of the 42 rooms need to be imminently refurbished: they were 2 single rooms that we were able to set up as double rooms and...

We stayed at Hotel Orto De Medici in July, 2012 and were very impressed. The hotel is located within easy walking distance to all the major attractions in Florence. It had a good breakfast, and a pretty little garden area where you could have cocktails or read. They also provide a couple of PCs in the lobby to access the...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
