I booked this hotel for 2 nights through Hotwire so I got the room at a good price. I think it's good for the money considering it's about a 30 second walk from the beautiful Arno river. The hotel is also a manageable walk from the train station - just 15 minutes or so. Neither my mum nor I travel...

Although this place is not easily accesible from florence train station, once in the hotel its all worth it. Right from the lobby to the room, the hotel reflects distinct character and great style in terms of its architecture. The hotel can do better by updating its electronic features like TV and other items in the room. The breakfast served...

The hotel stay was booked through a tour company. Realizing the hotel is older, I was still disappointed. The wallpaper was peeling, the towel bar in the bathroom was falling off and the baseboards appeared to have not been cleaned. The breakfast was very good. The location was good. I would not recommend this hotel based on above reasons.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! I booked my stay at the hotel 5 months in advance and upon arrival at the set check-in time I was turned away as the hotel had over booked and sent to another hotel away from all my family and friends - not great when you are a lone female! I complained to the...

This hotel has good location: - slightly away from the centre but in a walking distance - quiet since it's in a residential area - very close to the train station - near the river The bed is fabulous. The staff is excellent, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is great as well with a wide variety of foods.

We stayed four nights at this hotel having booked a twin in case the beds turned out to be small. On arrival the receptionist sent us - with our case and bags! - on what turned out to be a wild-goose chase to view a dingy room that turned out to contain only a small double despite our having pointed...

Selected by our tour company for the three-night start to a tour of Tuscany, the NH Anglo American Hotel provided the quiet, clean safe atmosphere desired by travelers who love walking the streets of historic Florence, Italy. Slightly further from the Duomo area than hotels on two previous trips, we felt safe walking the distances along the Arno two blocks...

This hotel is very well located, near the train station and near the river, it's walking distance from everything. The staff is very nice, always trying to help. Breakfast is good and rooms are clean and not so small as you usually expect on european hotels. I would definitively arrive there again, and don't miss the bar, they have excellent...

This hotel made our stay fantastic in Florence. When we reached the hotel, the receptionist saw our little daughter with us, and gave us a bigger room. When we entered the room the bed was the size of two king beds. The rooms were very neat and clean. Service was great. The breakfast was the best bit. For our entire...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
