My single room was really tiny. Bathroom was tiny too. It was like living in my walk-in closet back home in Minnesota. The hotel itself is old. A lot of wear and tear. I could hear a lot hallway noises. The pool is tiny, but it has a great rooftop view. Grand Hotel Minerva is due for a major upgrade.... More

Dear Guest, let me first of all thank you for booking our hotel and for having stayed with us even if the room you were assigned was not up to your expectations. It is true, our single rooms are tiny (about 14 square metres / 150 square feet) but nicely equipped. We have just a few of them available: for... More

The position is just fantastic, step out of the hotel and you're not in the middle of the square ... you're just in Santa Maria Novella Church. It's also close to go by foot to Piazza della Signoria and Piazza Duomo. The room furniture is very good. Very clean, large bedrooms and absolutly relaxing (one of the best bed I've... More

We spent 2 nights here in late May. Location was great...close to most of the major attractions, just around the corner from the railway station, and on the Piazza de Maria Santa Novella. Rooftop pool and bar really attractive and offered great views. Breakfast was included in our rate and was really good with full hot/cold options and with plenty... More

The rooftop made the vacation, beautiful setting, the most spectacular view and no better place to relax and enjoy the scenery. This is the place that you should stay if you want to be absolutely blown away by the views. With a great breakfast and nice room, there is no option that even compares. Of course a slight Italian flair... More

My wife and I spent 5 nights at Minerva in May 2011. The staff, breakfast (warm and cold buffet), room size and view of the Piazza were all Fabulous. Great view of the Doumo and sunset! easy walk to the main shopping and dinning areas.

Four of us in 2 separate rooms totally enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was included in a lovely room. People working at the hotel were gracious, helpful and friendly. This is a really wonderful location on a piazza in Florence just a stroll to everything!

Grand Hotel Minerva is very well situated, on the lively square of S. Maria Novella, next to the beautiful church with that name. It is only a short walk from the station, and very close to the Duomo, Piazza Reppublica, Via Tornabuoni with all the luxury shops, etc. We had a large room on the fifth floor, with a beautiful... Splendid location, perfect accomodation and services, very good breakfast with more choices than one could eat. The personnel at the front desk are always very gentle, attentious and good humored, giving very useful indications about the city, its history and culture, places to visit, shopping and different places to eat, according to one's budget.

This hotel came highly recommended by a friend and I can only second her opinion. It is located in an attractive area, only minutes away from the train station and the city's major attractions. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
