I had not been to Florence before and wanted to ensure my family enjoyed their stay. I was first attracted to the hotel's central location - very handy to the train station too - and then by the roof top pool. The Trip Advisor reports were quite favourable but I still half expected at least the pool to be a... More

This is our third stay at the Grand Minerva. It's excellent. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful, the breakfast is excellent, even for us vegetarians! It's very clean, spacious and centrally located. The Piazza outside is very busy at night, I can see how that would make some feel a little intimidated, however, we never saw any trouble... More

Dear Guests, first of all let me thank you for your continued support both in visiting and reviewing us. I am sorry that you have felt awkward on our rooftop, which is supposed to be our relaxing place “par excellence”. It is actually the first time that such a situation is brought to my attention and that’s why we have... More

We booked this hotel for 5 nights as part of our honeymoon in Italy and wern't disappointed. From check in we found the hotel staff friendly and helpful, especially Nadia who checked us in and made us feel very welcome, giving us lots of information about Florence and telling us about things to do in the city. Our room was... More

Exceptional welcome by front desk staff, beautifully furnished rooms, quiet location on beautiful piazza with the Church of Santa Maria Novella (don't miss a visit there - go in the early morning to avoid the crowd), great breakfast in a lovely room, awesome roof top pool with terrace for relaxing and enjoying a drink and snacks, friendly staff. We stayed for a week at this lovely hotel. The situation is very good-just 5 mins easy walk from the main station, and overlooking a lovely square with the usual superb marble covered church present! The breakfast was plentiful aand tasty and the staff were very friendly, but the coffee was awful!-shame, because otherwise we can't fault this hotel. The... More

Dear Guests, thank you for having chosen our hotel and for your enthusiastic review. I would like to add something regarding the façade of the church of Santa Maria Novella. Not everybody knows that its marble façade is one of the few in Florence which have been realized by the same artist who has designed it (namely Leon Battista Alberti... More

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights 7-10th August. We had a quiet room (305) and everything was perfect, clean, comfortable. Breakfast was extensive as you would expect in a 4 star, everything you could think of including champagne, which we took full advantage of as it was our 30th wedding anniversary celebration. The roof terrace swimming... More

My husband and I have just got back from 3 nights in Florence, staying at the Minerva. I booked this hotel as a surprise for my husbands birthday, and was very glad I did. Stayed in Grand Minerva for 3 nights and found its location great. We came in from Venice, and literally walked less than 10 minutes to arrive at Hotel. Although being near a train station wouldn't generally be considered a good location, it was actually situated in a Piazza with that was bustling with tourist, even at 12am. The hotel itself... We stayed here in June, for 4 nights at the end of a small tour of Italy. The reason we chose to stay here is that the hotel has a pool and is very centrally located. Dear Guest, thank you for having been with us and for your very benevolent review. I would like to take this opportunity to explain a couple of things about driving to the hotel. Actually, you are right: Florence has undergone a series of changes in its traffic system but I dare say the situation is now stable. These changes have... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
