The Montebello Splendid is the perfect hotel for a short break in Florence. It is expensive, but worth every penny (cent). The service and attention to detail was excellent. We booked a deluxe room which was beautiful, with double doors to a large balcony overlooking the lovely courtyard. Breakfast was great - catering for all tastes. Can't wait to go...

I've been to Florence a few times in the last years and have always stayed in the centre. Montebello was by far the best I've been in so far. Rooms are small, but very nice with great layout and amenities. Service is outstanding. From breakfast, through to the small hours of the morning drinking martinis on the terrace, the staff...

We just returned from a four night stay in this lovely hotel. We stayed in the family room with loft with our two teenage children. It was spacious, comfortable, and lovely. The breakfast was wonderful and had such a variety. We eagerly looked forward to it each day. We especially liked the small touches in the service at this hotel...

Beautiful, luxurious hotel, superb service and breakfast. Very good and nice to have the welcome meal, available in the restaurant on the first night of your stay. Some cool gadgetry, including automatic shutters on the windows, and a lovely shower and jacuzzi bath. Pretty good location and fairly quiet, however if you want to be more central, may not be...

We spent five nights at the Montebello Splendid and were very satisfied with our visit. Room 206 is a junior suite with a small sitting area with two chairs and a large desk with 20 inch tv. The bedroom was comfortable with nice mattresses and linens. The marble bathroom was tight, but functional. Fluffy towels warmed on the rack were...

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel and overall it was a good experience. The location is about a 20 min walk from the ponte vecchio a little of the beaten path, but this suited us well. Our first room was next to a family with a crying baby but the managment was accomidating and put us in another room....

Spectacular service, lovely common areas and fabulous accomodations. The front desk and concierge were extremely helpful, before and during our stay. The breakfast was great and the value, for Florence, was outstanding. Enjoy!

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
