The hotel building should be gutted or torn down. It has significant plumbing/sewage problems which produces a strong odor throughout the East wing of the building. Exterior/street rooms are also very noisy....

We booked this hotel through Thomas Cook and I have to say when I returned home after booking it I was really worried when I read some of the reviews on here!! However my fears were not necessary! as soon as we arrived we were impressed with the hotel, the staff were incredibly friendly and spoke english very well! We...

I have read endless bad reviews about this hotel and felt I had to write about our recent stay. We booked a trip through Gate 1 Travel Agency (which I highly recommend as well) and stayed at the Croce di Malta in Florence. We totally lucked out with an upgraded room which was very large with a beautiful balcony which...

Situated round the corner from the bus terminus was handy. We were given a large double room - parquet flooring, wooden furniture and a view of the street outside. Beware the shower in the bathroom, as the curtain that surround it is not long enough to stop the water flooding the floor so usually the floor is soaking wet! It...

I cannot say this was the best hotel we stayed at in Italy, but it was OK for our needs. The hotel was only 5 minutes away from the main train station and the walk to the sites was not that bad. The bathrooms were small but my wife and I stayed in room 130 (end of the hall) and...

When I first arrived here, I was pretty impressed. I had not read any reviews (as I didn't discover trip advisor until after I booked and paid for this and didn't want to be disappointed before I arrived!) and so was quite happy as the hotel seems quite lovely. Nice foyer etc, and the room looked pretty great, with a...

I should have paid attention to the reviews, but my travel agent said I would not have a problem with this hotel. It was a dingy, dirty hotel. Terrible location. The bathroom was so small that you could not use the toilet unless your feet were in the shower stall. This hotel definitely has a sewer odor in the rooms...

I've got to admit that I was worried about this hotel when I read some of the other reviews here! When we arrived at the Croce Di Malta, the receptionist told us that we were being moved to another hotel as the water main had burst outside and there was no water in our room. She had everything arranged and...

We stayed here for three nights during a tour of Italy expecting to find a four star hotel, instead what we found was barely deserving of a two star rating. Ok so where to start? Maybe the dark, dingy room, the pathetic excuse for a bathroom, or the hotel bar which was never open? Lets start with the room. Small,...

Summary: A/C did work, they tried to ignore the problem, and seemed to hide behind poor English to make clear communication possible. The rooms require the key to be inserted in to the wall to activate all power, so we assumed that's why the room was hot. That night I called to the hotel's front desk and asked about air...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
