What a great hotel! Convenient to explore Florence by foot. Minutes from the Academia ( where David is) and from the Duomo. This hotel use to be a 16th century monastery. Loved everything about this hotel. Our room was on the backside of the hotel looking out on some gardens and the Academia. In the evenings we would open the...

Quiet, clean, and restful, the Hotel Loggiato dei Serviti is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of Florence's busy tourist areas. The first thing to charm you will be the history behind the hotel -- this building once housed the guest quarters for the Servi di Maria monastic order and so the building was built in the early...

Thank you very much for taking your time to write such a detailed and accurate review. You did capture the beauty and charm that lies behind this building which actually owes its facade and the will to build after 100 years by the work of the "Ospedale degl'Innocenti" by Filippo Brunelleschi, one of the greatest Italian artists of Renaissance, with...

This is a well located hotel with breakfast included. It's an old place but charming and clean. I've stayed here three times while in Florence and would revisit it again. There is a small bar where you can have drinks and small kine appetizers. There is the Ristorante accademia very close by and their food is outstanding. It's just a...

We could not recommend Hotel Loggiato dei Serviti highly enough, we were visiting Florence for the first time, and the hotel was of utmost importance due to wishing for 'A Room With A View' after waiting over 20 years to visit, the expectation could not have been higher, and we were not disappointed. We booked directly with the hotel and...

When you step through the doors of this hotel, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time to another era. The architecture goes back to the Renaissance, and the furnishings in the common areas may help you imagine that you've arrived at Italian villa at the start of the nineteenth century. In particular the breakfast room is well appointed with...

This hotel was decent. We did not stay in the main building but in one right off the plaza, and the rooms are not quite like the ones depicted on the website. The first night the heating in my room was very noisy. I mentioned it to the staff the next day and they promptly took care of it. I...

Let's start with a disclaimer: If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place: look elsewhere. I chose this hotel because it offered the Renaissance ambiance, in the Renaissance city, at a very reasonable price. This place was built to mimic the Ospedale degli Innocenti, across the piazza (both buildings provide frame to the Piazza della Santissima Anunziata),...

Dear Guests, Thank you so much for your stay with us and for sending your evaluation: it's good to read about your experience and as you pointed out, the hotel is still part of a Renaissance building. You can imagine how hard it can be to have a lift embedded into these walls without spoiling the very nature of the...

This hotel is a jewel. I cannot think of a better word. It is an old noble palace located in one of the nicest squares in Florence. It is so central that we were able to walk everywhere. Our room was old-fashioned but spotlessly clean and had a big bathroom. There is a nice lounge downstair and a small bar....

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
