Stayed as part of a small group tour package. While others have commented that the hotel looked "tired," we agree that some maintenance of woodwork and good reading light in rooms is needed. Last redecorated about 20+ years ago and it shows. Otherwise, our room was quite nice, huge in size, old style and opulent in decor, very clean as...

Wow! We had no idea that our experience at the Helvetia would be near perfect! Our initial greeting from Francesco, our outstanding dinner in the restaurant, the comfortable accommodations, and the yummy breakfast to start our day in Florence does not emphasize how much we enjoyed our short visit. The perfect stay would have been more nights! We appreciate the...

When I think 5 star, I conjure up images of graciousness and luxury. What I don't think about is being "nickel and dimed" and dirty carpets. True we were met at the entry by a friendly individual in coat and tails (a bit overdone I thought) but after a very harrowing and frustrating drive around Florence because of the Toscana...

Not a 5 star hotel. Well situated but overall presents a very tired appearance. The hotel annoys guests by attempting to charge for WiFi and plug adaptors although if you are persistent they will waive the charge. The lounge and dining were less than inviting. The tiny 3 person lifts were claustrophobic.

It is hard to believe we stayed in the same hotel as some of the other reviewers, except that it is conveniently located. Our room had badly stained carpet and furniture, a shabby wardrobe with doors that had to forced closed. The hotel is deliberately old fashioned, which is fine, but that ought not to mean tired and shabby. The...

Great hotel in the heart of Florence. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the food wonderful. Our suite was very comfortable and quiet with all the amenities. This was a bit of luxury on our busy trip to Italy.

We were in Italy for 3 weeks and stayed in 4 cities. The Helvetia and Bristol is very comfortable, well located for shopping and sightseeing with lots of restaurants close by and the staff made very good recommendations and would make reservations. We did laundry at the hotel and it was returned same day on hangers and perfectly done. The...

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the Helvetia & Bristol on Tripadvisor. We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay here and our cuisine was of your liking! A hotel with great service, staff was always helpful and friendly, very clean, extremely comfortable, well located for shopping, sightseeing and eating. The rooms are well appointed. There's just no better place to stay in Florence! A easy, comfortable, non-pretentious 5 star hotel.

The Helvetia & Bristol is a late-nineteenth century hotel in a prime location in Florence. It is a SHORT walk to almost everything; the Duomo is maybe two blocks, shopping on Tornabuoni is half a block, and it's surrounded by great restaurants. The Pitti Palace is a bit of an outlier, but that gives you an idea of where this...

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
