the price and location were good but we got such a small room with strangely angled shower; the double bed filled the main room; the meals were good and well priced and the location was excellent for good access to what we had come to see with other good eating places nearby

Perfect location walking distance to train station on lovely square where you do not feel like you are near the station. Make sure to admire the Murano glass chandelier in the reception and the hallway ceilings reminiscent of the Sistene Chapel on the upper floor. My room and bed was spacious, though the shower was a bit tight. Very quiet...

Positives: A great place on a great square. Nothing is too much trouble. Easy reach to the main part of the city. Hassle free. Negatives: The standard rooms are quite small, smaller than what we have in the UK. We asked to be upgraded, which was done effortlessly and we were given a room similar size to a Premier Inn...

My husband and I had a 3 night stay here. It was our first time in Florence. The hotel is 5 minutes from the train station and is situated in a large Piazza which really comes alive Day and Night. The hotel once you walk through the doors of Number 21 , is a peaceful retreat from noise and for...

The hotel is less than 10 minutes from the main train station. We had a room overlooking the Piazza Novella were they had some good quality street music ie Guitar or Clarinet music by good musicians which was very pleasant. The room was nice and clean with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was fully fitted with a decent shower...

Room overlooked the Piazza Santa Maria Novella and in the early evening with windows open we listened to the street musicians. Extraordinarily large room by European standards, excellent staff and wonderful stay. Bit of a trek to the 3rd floor room but well managed by the staff.

My wife and I recently spend four nights at the Hotel Rosso23 in Florence, Italy and enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is excellently located within walking distance of the station and most sights. The staff are helpful and friendly. one problem is the small size of room and a truly tiny bathroom. It needs some contortion to use for a normal...

Clean hotel and excellent location. Friendly staff and great breakfast- the only negative is that the room was very small and wash room was tiny- the shower stall was so small it was difficult to have a shower!

We booked an economy room and there was not room to swing a cat. The double bed was pushed against the wall, and by the time you put in 2 suitcases, you were very cramped. The aircon is so decrepit that the whole bedroom wall shakes. The only good thing was that the bedroom window opened.. The ensuite was tiny...

The hotel is in the perfect location for a stay in Florence. The room was very small and the air conditioning was the noisiest I've experienced in a hotel before. But the room was very clean and tidy. The complimentary breakfast had a great selection of food and was well stocked each morning. The staff were friendly and made recommendations...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
