We arrived in Florence at night with inadequate maps/no SatNav, so it was quite hard to find the hotel...with many one way streets & closed off tourist areas. When we stopped at another hotel, they kindly called our hotel but were frustrated in communicating with the night concierge who couldn't speak Italian at all & had limited English. 'Breakfast' was...

We stayed here five nights and found the room to be quite large. The armoir alone was nearly the size of some European bathrooms. It was clean, modern with nice furnishings. There was a small balcony, flanked by two large air conditioners. However it was lacking some basics like room numbers on the doors, toilet paper holder, a wastebasket (there's...

Arrived at the hotel on the 10th day of my honeymoon through Italy, and the guy at the front desk told me he didn't have a room for me. He told me he he had tried to contact me and the travel agency that I booked through, but it turns out they just over booked their own hotel. So basically...

This was a great hotel. Our room was very large, even by American standards. We could see Duomo at the end of the street when standing at the front door of the hotel. The included breakfast was very basic, but fine. The staff were friendly and spoke at least passable English.

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights in September 2012. I would characterize this as a very good 3-star hotel. Overall, it was a good value and I would recommend this hotel to others looking for a simple clean hotel without the need for extravagance. The location is excellent. One block away from Academia and just down the street...

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights on our recent trip to Florence. Room was a good size with a wonderful balcony. Great for sitting out in the evenings enjoying a glass of wine. Very clean but the room had a strange odour the first night....fixed by the staff and the second night was great. Short walk to the...

We had two great nights at the hotel. The room, bed and shower were a great size. Although my wife did request the room with largest bed. Easy walk to train station and a few blocks from the Duomo. Staff was very friendly and includes breakfast. Also there is a laundromat right across the street so you can catch up...

The hotel is quite small but its big where it matters most, the rooms are a great size as well as the bathroom. The service was good and the breakfast was nice. Good location about a kilometre from the train station and near all the historic monuments including about a block from the museum with the statue of David. Would...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
