I am stunned by the negative reviews about this place. It is quite simply beautiful. Yes, Colin and Scarlett are an acquired taste - but Scarlett is a wonderful cook and the house is wild and stunning.

If your idea of a real holiday is to find a place of peace away from the world then this is the place for you. Il castagno has everything you need for a week of relaxation - uninterrupted views across the Tuscan hills, a pool, and of course the Italian sunshine. Day trips to Sienna, Arrezo, Cortona and even San...

We stayed for a week early September, in Il Castagno, the small barn. It was picture perfect, with vines overhead on our own patio, a fig tree which we were encouraged to pick, and the most beautiful views from every window. I find it unbelievable that other reviewers said the Campbells were unhelpful, they were so helpful to us, had...

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Stoppiace and absolutely loved it! Being on honeymoon we were looking for somewhere rural and unspoilt to unwind from planning a wedding. We found Colin and Scarlett extremely helpful and very friendly. The location is fairly remote, but if this is what you want then it couldn't be more perfect. We...

We knew that Stoppiacce was rural. We read the words on their website. It was exactly what we were looking for. This tastefully decorated bed and breakfast was to be our home for a week and it is indeed quite supeb. Quiet and beautifully set amongst fragrant gardens atop a wonderful hillside. Scarlett served fresh figs for breakfast every day...

Unfortunately, we cannot recommend Stoppiace. We almost stayed with them in May 2004. Colin and Scarlett Campbell are poor representatives of the innkeeping field. They seem to have little understanding of what their guests need or want. The Campbells promote Stoppiace as being just outside of Cortona in a beautiful setting. While beauty may be in the eye of the...

In 1999 on our first trip to Cortona, we decided to rely totally on Karen Brown's B&B Guide. We were travelling with friends at the beginning of July. This was not our first trip to Italy, but we were looking for a different kind of experience in the Hill Towns...well, we got it! First of all we thought we were...

Our stay at Stoppiacce was the only low point on an otherwise wonderful Italian vacation. Every other b&b we visited was exceptional--the Italians all were helpful and went out of their way to help us enjoy ourselves. Not so at Stoppiacce. We stayed in the "Il Castagno" which was billed as a cozy retreat for two. It is an old...
