Amazing suite, with two rooms and sweeping views. This is a special property, beautiful and well run by a delightful family and their staff. Gaia is the daughter of the founder, smart, friendly and warm. Julianna was the most helpful concierge. She suggested great restaurants (Osteria Rosso Divino and Trattoria del Nino were the best. ORD fancier with amazing salt baked fisha nd Nino more low key family style but off the charts good.) Juianna also found us a boat to take us out. Andreas was the captain and while pretty much a kid, he did a great job. Jessica was our breakfast waitress and she was super friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the hotel pays attention to detail. Just loved being there!!!

We arrived exhausted after 24 hrs of travel from the USA. The staff was so kind and efficient to get us checked in and provide a delicious dinner at the highly rated on-site restaurant. Our room was very tight, but the private terrace with views of Etna and the sea made up for the small quarters. The bed was super comfortable! Complimentary Breakfast buffet on the restaurant terrace had some very good selections along with the amazing views. The reason for the 4 stars was due to our terrace not being very clean as it seemed like the debri had not been swept off for a few days. And also, the shuttle service refused a request for a pick up time outside of their schedule, even though there was a full hour break from the schedule. Overall though, this property is comfortable and stunning.

As previous reviewers have indicated, this small boutique hotel has stunning views and very helpful staff. Rooms are tight but expected given location. They really tried to work the best with what they've got, so even managed to put a pool in across the road albeit having to put sun loungers another floor below. Staff really do try to help with all your requests, though did have glitches with the shuttle times but they did their best to remedy and all is good. My 4 star rating (not 5) has to do with the final day. Upon check out I ask for a taxi, which for some reason took 45 min to arrive. I was 2 min late for my train, and by chance the train was delayed by 5 min so i made it with a lot of running with luggage. While taxi delays is not the hotel's fault, I did ask them to please drive me using their shuttle when the taxi didn't show as I knew i was now at risk of missing my train. I also indicated I was happy to pay. For some reason, despite the front desk staff asking, the driver refused!???!! While they were still arguing my taxi arrived, so i didn't stay to find out the outcome. I think for a hotel who prides on service this is not in line with that motto. In fact, I think the shuttle service is really the weak part of the chain and would suggest they review for improvements especially given the price point. Otherwise a great stay, great room, superb views, and great staff (especially the dinning room staff!!)

Dear Guest, first of all we thank you for your consideration and for appreciating our hospitality and the beauty of our hotel. However I can guarantee that our shuttle service, completely free, is used exclusively to take all guests to the historic center and back to the hotel. No one is authorized to ride other than this one. We apologize for the taxi delay, for which we are not responsible. On behalf of all the staff, a warm greeting. Highly recommend Hotel Villa Ducale - we just stayed there earlier this week and we are already planning when we can return for another stay... The staff is amazing! No request too small and they will try to accommodate. When we drove up the hill to the hotel, we were floored by its beauty, and we immediately asked to extend our stay another night. To accomodate the additional night without changing rooms, the hotel manager asked if we would like to have a look at one of the suites across the street and we were thrilled to stay in Suite #5. We enjoyed stunning views from our terrace of Messina Bay area and the "boot" of Sicily. The furniture in the suite was very comfortable, and we found it to be peaceful to sleep at night. I woke up early one morning and enjoyed the amazing sunrise from our terrace. The views are stunning from every corner of the hotel, which was designed so the guests can easily relax and enjoy the surroundings. We ordered drinks on the terrace near the restaurant for happy hour each evening to enjoy the sunset. Francesco was often our gracious host for happy hour, and helpful with tourist info and questions. We had dinner the first night we checked in and our meal was spectacular! The hotel does offer free shuttle to Taormina, which we used. However, it is easy to get a taxi in Taormina and not a significant expense so you can enjoy yourself on your own schedule. We enjoyed the small pool each afternoon to cool off, after exploring the area. The morning we checked out, breakfast was over- however, the staff graciously extended the buffet so our family could enjoy our last meal overlooking Taormina. We loved this wonderful hotel, the staff, the food, the views and the suite was amazing. We hope to return soon, and highly recommend Hotel Villa Ducale!!!

Max was an outstanding host. He kept the kitchen open for us and served fresh grilled fish and offered sweets at the end. True Italian hospitality. The location is amazing and the view is breathtaking. Definitely recommended. Pay him a visit!

Lovely views and really good, friendly service. Breakfast was great - plenty of choice. And we thought the restaurant was excellent too. We stayed in room 32 which was ok but really tired. In fact the public outdoor spaces all felt a bit in need of a refurbish. It’s clear that space is at a premium in Taormina which is completely understandable but our tiny outdoor terrace was crammed with two sunloungers and a small table and chairs so that you could barely move. We looked at the ‘pool’ but it was so small without any seating that it seemed pointless. Reading other reviews it seems maybe other rooms were done to a better standard. In all fairness we didn’t complain as overall we were happy to be in Taormina and only stayed two nights. To be clear it wasn’t all bad, and we were made very welcome. I think the key reason for dropping stars for us is that it really didn’t live up to the website gallery and so didn’t meet our expectations.

Dear Guest, all the rooms have a high standard and are all different from each other because Villa Ducale is an ancient Sicilian villa transformed into a boutique hotel. I am pleased that the welcome and our innate sense of hospitality lead you to write this review for which we thank you. The photos fully reflect the essence of our hotel and as regards the swimming pool it is perfectly in harmony with our villa. The sun loungers are located next to the pool in the garden. And not only that .. we also have another solarium facing south near what was your junior suite for just two nights in Taormina. Best regards Daria Galea General Manager Hotel Villa Ducale

Excellent hotel, welcoming service, world-class views of Etna and the strait of Messina. A true gem in Taormina. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We extended our stay twice, and when we couldn't extend a third time, the owner arranged for us to stay at an affiliated hotel. Did not try the spa or pool.

We had such a lovely stay at Villa Ducale for three nights. All of the staff are friendly and helpful and we felt really well looked after. Our room was gorgeous and had the most enormous bath I’ve ever seen overlooking the bay and mount etna. Jessica and Max were our servers at the restaurant each morning and when we dined in the evening, and they are both so lovely. I’ve got a lovely bag to remember the stay by and I would return again in a heartbeat x

Situated high above Taormina this is one of the 3 hotels, amongst very many, that I have felt sad to leave (the others being East Winds St Lucia and St Enodoc Cornwall). This is not because it is perfect but due to the sense of relaxation and genuine friendliness of the staff. Of course being at the top of a hill has some disadvantages but also advantages of cooler breezes and world class views. Taormina is full of steps and you can walk down to the centre using steps that start near Chiesa Madonna della Rocca. If you are concerned about walking back then the hotel runs a regular and free minivan service up and down the hill. The hotel itself is a villa which has been extended even across the road with many of the rooms having spectacular views. We occupied a room on the 1st floor of the villa with 2 terraces, large and small, and also views of the coast and Etna. It was extremely comfortable with a choice of pillows being somewhere to relax and enjoy yourself. If you want to sit out of your room then there is an outside terrace below the restaurant, again with fantastic views and comfortable chairs, whilst there is also space near the bar inside. All areas were not particularly busy and the staff will look after you. Across the road is a small swimming pool - around 6 great strokes in length. There is no space around it for sunbathing but you will find loungers down the steps below. Breakfasts are taken in the restaurant again with the spectacular views. There is a small cooked option and a delicious collection of Sicilian meats, pastries and cheese. I shall look forward to returning.
