A 19th century Palace on the seafront. Built in 1880 and converted to a hotel in 1959, it attracted glamorous clientele (Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor) It is an exceptionally romantic hotel, with a mixture of old world elegance and easy going contemporary style of hospitality. You can swim in the sea or the salt swimming pool. Food is good....

We stayed for a week in a sea-view room with a balcony. We found the hotel to be pretty close to flawless! With fantastic views over the sea and to Capo Caccia, it is in an enviable position, a few hundred metres from the walls of Alghero. We took full advantage of the heated sea-water pool, and did some snorkelling...

Nothing to add that others have not said about this lovely hotel other than appreciation for the preservation of a classic. True, there are some imperfections but nothing that detracts from your enjoyment nor comfort. You don't stay here if you want flawless plastic. The family should be commended for the substantial commitment to provide a memorable hotel stay. We...

We stayed at this hotel in mid may, when visiting Sardegna. The location is excellent with stunning view of the sea. The hotel is well maintained and has a nice garden. The staff are very friendly and the food served at the restaurant is very good. It is located at walking distance from the historic centre.

We traveled to Sardinia for 10 days at the beginning of July and started our trip at the Villa Las Tronas in Alghero. The hotel is entirely different than any property in the city because it is truly its own little retreat away from the busy city center and blocks from the old city main square. The location is perfect...

Excellent option that allows one the great amenities of a high end hotel while being walking distance from the picturesque town. Breakfast surprisingly uninspired for a high end property and unfortunately ( and I'd argue foolishly) they charge extra for eggs that contain veggies. The pools are clean and spacious enough. Spa is well done for a small town property-...

Our third visit to Las Tronas, this time for four days. This is a great hotel for people who want to stay in a small, old hotel with style. Excellent room - We had one with sea view and terrace (114). The small city next to the hotel - Alghero - is a nice place for evening walks.

First of all, we really enjoyed our stay at Las Tronas Hotel & Spa - but there were definite pros and cons. Pros: perfect location and setting - private yet easy access to downtown and the wharf; really outstanding grounds including a fabulous and warm outdoor pool, beach area and indoor spa area which includes a large warm indoor pool,...

1 night stay with family in June. The hotel is amazing and has an interesting history. What we particularly liked was that they had a private beach and a pool. Staff and service was relaxed, and the location was excellent, just a short walk from the old city. They had bicycles that you can borrow for free. We dis that...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Villa Las Tronas is the delightful 5-star hotel that has become the symbol of Alghero - “the Golden Door to tourism in Sardinia” - situated on the Riviera del Corallo on the north-west coast of the Island. The hotel rises from the sea-shore with its Spa, nestled in the greenery of nearly two hectares of park that separate it from the Alghero waterfront, on a headland surrounded on three sides by the crystal-clear water of the bay. Numerous quays invite you to sunbathe and swim in the most comfortable, private way. The view is spectacular and the atmosphere so intense and romantic as to steal the hearts of Italian Royalty, who chose the Villa up to the nineteen-forties for their holidays in Sardinia. The bar and panoramic restaurant are the ideal place to relax, while your gaze takes in the Bay of Alghero and rediscovers the timeless luxuriousness inherent in the unique features and character of the villa. The Hotel and the Spa – with its covered sea-water swimming-pool (also looking out over the Mediterranean), sauna, Turkish bath, Kneipp walkway, gym and the beauty area – are open all through the year. ... more   less
