Venice was amazing and the stay with Marco and his wife was wonderful. Breakfast on a pretty terrace in the sunshine was lovely. The room was large clean and comfortable just what you need after a hard day of sight seeing. Location was very good close to really nice bars and restaurant's where tourists and locals mingle but away from...

I stayed one night only with another person in the ground floor B&B apartment. The house is in a corner of a quiet courtyard, so there's no passing noise, but the area is not at all busy anyway. We found the directions easy to follow and found the house first time. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable. A good sized...

We had a downstairs room in this small B&B - it was more like a mini-apartment, with a separate sitting area, kitchenette, and good sized bathroom complete with bath. The owners speak good English and are very welcoming, with advice on places to visit, eat, etc. The room was comfortable with lots of wardrobe and drawer space. Tucked away in...

We had such a wonderful visit in Venice and the B & B was a big part of that. Marco's information for getting around and recommendations for dinner lead us to our best meal in Italy. The breakfast was also so lovely. The terrace where breakfast was served was beautiful. It was nice to have a hardboiled egg and fresh...

We stayed for two nights and found Casa Baseggio to be very clean, comfortable, and in a quiet neighborhood of Venice. Upon arrival Alessandra met us and gave us a map with recommendations for restaurants and a supermarket nearby. The complimentary breakfast was very nice and had an assortment of eggs, pastries, yogurt, coffee, etc. We were leaving fairly early...

What a gem! Marco and Alessandra are so kind, and their B&B is lovely. The neighborhood feels authentic, something that's hard to find in Venice - it's quiet and residential, and just a short walk away from some of the best local bars, bacari, and restaurants (kindly recommended by our hosts) on Fondamenta Misericordia. Vino Vero was an absolute favorite...

The b&b is a small family run gem in Canareggio. It is set in a beautiful garden - we had our breakfast on a terrace and enjoyed the setting very much. The rooms are very tastefully decorated, pristine clean, and full of light and air. The building oozes character. The owners are a very attentive couple. The location couldn't be...

I'm sure this is the best place to stay in Venice if you don't want be a typical tourist and leave/eat/sleep/enjoy the city in the crowd of other people. Discrict is quite, at least one of the few that are still true and authentic. Host - Marco and his wife Alessanda are super-friendly and helpful: starting with letting us leave...

Marco and Sandra couldn't have made us more welcome. Just 10 minutes walk from Madonna Dell Orto (first vaporetto stop from Marco Polo Airport) Casa Bassegio is situated in a a tranquil and convenient area. Our room had everything we needed. The breakfast was substantial-boiled egg, cereal, croissant, bread roll, yoghurt, biscuits, fruit juice, tea or coffee. Five minutes walk...

We stayed for three nights - two young at heart retired couples. The rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable. The showers good. Breakfasts, out on the patio, were excellent. Coffee lovely. The owners were lovely people, friendly and helpful and the whole house had a peaceful calm atmosphere. Very welcome after the crowds in the centre of Venice. The area...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located in the historical center, Casabaseggio is situated in the wing of an ancient building which was part, already in 1300, of a Franciscan convent. From the terrace where in the summer breakfast is served is possible to enjoy the peace of the garden which was constituting an ancient cloister and is also possible to notice through the cypresses the very ancient Abbey Of The Mercy (Abbazia della Misericordia). The rooms with bathroom are elegantly furnished and provided with all the modern comforts (TV, air conditioning, fridge, hair-dryer, sound-proofing, free WI-FI). It’s possible to add one bed for babies and children up to 4 years old who are lodged free of charge. Breakfast is typically continental, with some Venetian speciality. ... more   less
