The service is pretty much what you could expect from Venetian hotels, not bad but not great. Our room was dark with zero natural light from outside and the air conditioning for the building was switched off due to some or other Venetian law. Took this with a pinch of salt. The breakfast was good but you extra for proper...

We got a good price for this hotel so I was expecting it to be less than perfect, but it far exceeded expectations. Our room for three was opulent and very spacious, the breakfast selection was fantastic, staff went out of their way to be helpful, and the location couldn't have been better for exploring Venice. Only small issue was...

Good service; spacious suite. Jacuzzi tub and nice shower. Breakfast offerings are substantial and nice dining area. The front desk staff were helpful, and gave us two wake up calls and helped with luggage at 3 am. Carrying large luggage in Venice is NOT advisable. Foot bridges, cobblestone, crowds and stairs don't make it easy. Make sure you look at...

We stayed here by happenstance as our booked hotel was full. What a happy accident. The room was large with a pleasant aspect. The en suite facilities were more generous than most. Clean. The traditional Venetian glass chandelier was ubiquitous, and caused much hilarity as an acquired taste. Breakfast was fairly standard, mainly Continental with an attempt at bacon, but...

The hotel is in a good location within walking distance to the center. Our room was very spacious and decorated in the old style like always in Venice. Breakfast is also very tasty with lots of choices.

Stayed there between 1 February 2017 - 4 February 2017. The customer service at the Hotel is Exceptional. Special thanks to Mr Radu, who was extremely helpful. It was our first time in Venice and this Hotel made it a special experience for us. They were happy to arrange various services from taxis and activities to surprise birthday parties :)...

We recently stayed at Hotel Ca Alvise for 2 nights. The hotel is small and quaint, the room was a good size with a large bathroom which had a Jacuzzi, which was lovely. It took us nearly 45 mins to find the hotel so be prepared! You will definitely need Google maps on your phone but even these it's not...

The hotel had a nice central location. If you're going to Venice, you will be doing a lot of walking, which means that the hotel is all part of the experience. The hotel is quite a walk from the pier, and you could get lost very quickly. Get a map before hand and know where to turn and at which...

We had booked a city break with British Airways and were bumped from our original choice (the Hotel Marconi on the Grand Canal) so were a bit huffy when we arrived, after a 20 minute brisk trot through the streets with all our luggage. However, the staff couldn't have been nicer or the room cosier. It's on the corner of...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
