We spent the Easter weekend here in a Junior Suite which looked out directly on the Grand Canal. The room was spacious, the bed was large and comfortable and there is a separate dressing area which was very useful. The bathroom was tiny in comparison to the room with no bath although the shower was very good. The hotel interior...

This hotel interior looked so much different to the usual dowdy Venetian stuff, and it didn't disappoint. It was superbly located on the Grand Canal and the staff were very helpful and friendly too. Somebody has thought out this place very well and done a nice job on it inside. Our suite was stunning and the photos on the website...

Had spectacular trip to Venice, and found the best place to stay. The staff was outstanding and very helpful. Booked the suite along the grand canal. Staff said it was the nicest room in the hotel and I couldn't agree more. Large Corner room with multiple windows looking out at grand canal and side river. Large bathroom, many amenities and...

Magnificent City, busy, but not too busy, March is a great time to go. Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo Sul Canal Grande is a stunning 5* hotel a stones throw from Rialto, small, but beautifully formed. Front entrance is water only, do the water taxi from Marco Polo a great way to enter the city. The rear entrance is quite an experience,...

Having stayed in Venice last year my husband booked a surprise few days away and found this beautiful hotel. A small boutique and very personal hotel with warm and friendly staff. Nothing is too much trouble and they are there to help with where to go, taxis, late breakfast and really anything to make your stay memorable. Rooms are lovely...

From the moment the water taxi sped away from the airport and travelled along the Grand Canal to the door of the Barbarigo I was in a magical place. The staff were so welcoming. Our room was beautiful with windows looking straight onto the canal, so we could watch Venice life pass our window. Breakfast was delicious and attentively served....

My husband and I visited Venice for the first time and we will be back. This hotel went far above our expectations. Daniel and his staff made our stay so wonderful I can easily say this was our best trip to Italy ever. We did take the private water taxi from the airport to the hotel and I highly recommend...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
