We stayed here on our recent trip to Venice for 2 days in February. The staff is friendly, helpful and we were greeted very nicely upon our arrival. We got upgraded to a junior suite upon arrival. Our room was very quiet and clean. 10-15 minute walk from good shopping, food, bars, and San Marco. We would most certainly stay...

My wife and I have just returned from a lovely 3 night stay at this hotel in the city. The hotel is simply charming (certainly 5 star in my book - we bought our own villa abroad because we were always wary of what hotel room we were in for, but I would stay here again), in a great location...

Our trip to Venice was short and therefore we spent little time in the hotel but enjoyed its use when we were. Located in the north of the city on the Grand Canal and within a hundred yards of a vaporetto stop (Ca D'Oro - Line 1), it was an ideal place to be for a whistle-stop tour of Venice....

Having never been to Venice and thinking it was the wrong time of year to go, new year, I was pleasantly surprised, the weather was warm and mild. It was not streaming with busy tourists and so was good time to go. The hotel was amazing, and the staff were helpful and friendly. It was amazing that there were no...

Having been to Venice many times we particularly wanted a slightly more upmarket hotel. Not disappointed in look of hotel, rooms gorgeous and very spacious but reception staff sullen and never greeted us either coming or going out. Spent one day not going out at all and was surprised by a suited man coming in to room in the afternoon,...

We arrived in Venice by the Orient Express, we were booked into this hotel for 2 nights. I was really looking forward to staying here after looking at the we-site and reading reviews. However i was very disappointed. Our room was on the 5th floor and had absolutely no view -- a very funny outside area that i had to...

I had booked this hotel through SLH and must admit to being a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews on Tripadvisor. I had nearly cancelled! But I am now glad I didn't as we had a wonderful stay. The entrance of the hotel was not grand but the reception staff made us feel very welcomed. We were shown...

We arrived via a private water taxi (a bit flash, but 1st year anniversary and we wanted to celebrate in style), and as we turned onto the Grand Canal we sailed slowly up to the Hotel's waterside entrance. From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable. We were given a complimentary glass of Prosecco and sat down for a...

Arrived by water taxi and straight into the reception area where you immediately you think: "I have arrived!" The hotel itself is not large but is a beautifully restored palazzo. I went during May and it wasn't massively busy - which is a good thing. Considering its convenient location, the hotel was peaceful and we didn't have to wait at...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
