Nice hotel in a convenient but more quiet area. Staff was extremely helpful in recommending restaurants and places to visit. Room was small but comfortable. Would definitely recommend to others and return in the future.

We went in the Hotel Alla Fava for our wedding birthday and what we found there was a very beautiful hotel, very good situation in Venice downtown, easy to reach and not expensive. That said, the most important thing for us is the way we've been welcomed: that was just PERFECT! We were there during the America's cup and even...

A few steps from Realto bridge and less than 10 minutes walking to St. Marco square u just cant find a better place with a great value of money. Easy to get there from all locations, I found it really more than that I expected for a low budget hotel. The staff both Sara and Luca were more than great,...

My friend and I stayed three nights and highly recommend this hotel - the location is fantastic and it is good value for money. its not a 5 star hotel and the rooms are basic, but they are clean and exactly what you want as a base for a weekend. The hotel staff were fantastic - friendly and helpful. If...

We booked this hotel because, although we began looking far in advance, there were few real options available. Obviously Venice is very tourist intensive, and very expensive so that accounts for much. The Alla Fava was no better than average, the room was quite small, and so was the bathroom, even by European standards, the mattress was no more than...

You've got to love Venice. You stay in a shoebox room with tiny bathroom and wafer-thin walls for 220 euros per night (although the government notice on the room door states the maximum rate is 85 euros). Outside it is 15C. Inside it is the same temperature. Ask for heating. You are told the "conversion" took place in mid-May so...

really friendly staff, fantastic location right in the middle of venice, minutes away from the rialto bridge, easy to get to by ferry. cheap and cheerful. super basic quiet rooms. only downside was that the internet was terribly slow almost useless, and the woman at reception, seemed to know nothing about the internet ... apart from that it was perfect...

We stayed for 4 nights and found the Alla Fava to be OK for our needs. The room was small, as was the bathroom and shower, however the location of 5mins to Rialto and 10mins to the square means that this is a good hotel to stay for a few days right in the centre of the city. The rooms...

If you are looking for something in a perfect location, then this is the hotel for you. It was very close to almost everything including restaurants and tourist sites. Other than that, this hotel is downhill. The rooms are tiny, we had no space on the floor to put our luggage, let alone open it. We were placed on the...

Have just got back from a 2 night break in Venice and can highly recommend this little hotel. It's clean and tidy and all the staff were so warm and welcoming. I had contacted the hotel prior to our visit as it was a birthday treat for my husband and Sarah and Amber were quick with their responses and more...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

In the square, the church of Santa Maria della Fava hosts some famous works by Giambattista Tiepolo and Giovanni Battista Piazzetta. Hotel Alla Fava is one minute from the famous Rialto Bridge, one of the main sights in Venice hosting the rich and colourful fruit and vegetable market which enlivens the heart of the city every day. St Mark’s Square and the Bridge of Sighs are also at walking distance. The main public transport hub on the Grand Canal is 3 minutes away and connects to the main sights, to easily reach the islands in the Laguna: Murano, Burano and Torcello.
