Great location to get away from the boat loads of tourist who come in for the day. Beautiful part of town that is fairly easy to find your way around once you get familiar, but the exploring is part of the magic of Venice. There are treasures around every corner and this is a fantastic part of town to start....

Very helpful and pleasant hosts; quite and clean rooms; possibly a disadvantage is that it is located on the third floor,( no elevator) but hosts will help with the luggage. Can be reached by water taxi from the airport (or pick up passengers for the airport by taxi

The place is pretty awsome compare to other hotels. Getting out of the hotel and walking around is just marvelous. The room is quite clean and well maintained. Had a good time, staff are very friendly. I lost my passpost after leaving the hotel however the hotel helped the police to trace me down- Good job guys

Good location in a quiet area, but not too far from the centre or waterbus stops. Nice clean rooms. We were in Nonni room, which has both en-suite and also aircon, which was a big plus. Breakfast is standard continental offering, enough to set you up for the day, although a bit more fresh fruit on offer would have been...

Made for a lovely first visit to Venice - I stayed for 3 nights at the end of August. B&B San Marco truly felt like a home away from home. Marco and Alice provided all the information I needed prior to my stay including very detailed directions. When I arrived, Marco's tips on places to visit and eat ensured my...

A wonderful time in Venice - I stayed in two rooms for the length of my stay (Alice and Marco kindly accomodated my change of dates). Tastefully furnished with wonderful views of the canal, generous breakfasts, and amazing location. 5 minutes walk to San Marco Piazza but 5 mins back and you are with the locals possibly hearing the faint...

My daughters and their boyfriends joined my husband and me at B and B San Marco. Four of us shared the apartment, and the other two had a lovely B and B room. The place was light and comfortable, and the owners, Marco and Alice, couldn't have been more hospitable. The place is right on a quiet canal, and close...

We booked the room online & the process was very simple. Alice speaks very good English and her information & directions were clear. It took less than 10 minutes to walk from the Alilaguna ferry stop at S. Zaccaria. The B & B is on the 3rd floor and there is no lift so be aware. We had booked the...

Great location, not far from the main sights. Rooms were clean and tidy, and attractively furnished. Very friendly welcome, and the hosts offered us great recommendations for places to eat nearby. Super view over the canal from our window!

Alice and Marco (and ragazza Nina) were marvelous hosts. Very responsive initially when we planned the trip and very cordial and informative when we arrived. Marco gave us some great tips for biking in Lido. The apartment itself was perfect for the two of us and could easily accommodate a family of four. It's quite spacious. The apartment was clean;...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
