The location of this property is ideal for first-time travellers to Venice. Te one piece of advice I received was to stay on this main island rather than the mainland, and despite being more expensive, it is definitely worth it to base yourself here among the canals. Walking the lanes at night is beautiful, the only people who hassle you...

This hotel in Venice is located in a lovely fairly quiet part of Venice. The downfall to this hotel is that is right next to a bar/restaurant; which is very noisy throughout the night. Early morning staff arrive and are not quite; still noisy and wake you up. If it is not the bar waking you, the hotel staff wake...

This hotel was one of the cheapest we could find as we were travelling on a budget. The room was surprisingly comfortable and it was spotlessly clean. The staff were helpful and we got great advice on where to eat the most authentic Venician food (away from the tourist fodder). The location was perfect. It was out in the quieter...

Just a mile away from St. Marks square, it's in a nice quiet part of the city. Not far away from places to eat and the local shops. A 10minute walk away from the train station, it's in a nice location. All the staff really friendly. We booked online through a search engine, weren't able to print out the hotel...

Palazzo Cendon is a hotel converted from the family home of the Cannaregio family, whose name also features in the side canal where this hotel is situated - Canal di Cannaregio. There are both pro's and con's of this hotel. Good Points 1. Authentic Venetian experience. The building still has its outer brick walls and gives an authentic experience of...

Stayed here for 4 nights and it was fantastic. The hotel is in a really good location in Cannaregio, away from the tourist crowds around St Mark's Square. It is a 3 minute walk from the waterbus stop ('Guglie') which goes directly to and from the airport (a ~40 minute trip) and to St Mark's Square (a 30 minute trip)....

Room is a bit small, but do offer a great view of the canal. Kinda hard to find since the entrance is in an alley. A bit far from the train station, the road in Venice is rough to begin with, so hauling your languages is a little challenging. But I am glad that at least this hotel is on...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
