My husband and I have just spent 5 nights at Palazzina G in Venice for our silver wedding anniversary. It was lovely. Our suite's windows opened onto the Grand Canal, the room beautifully decorated all in cream with plenty of mirrors, we arrived by water taxi arranged by the hotel and had breakfast in our room by the canal every...

First, the lovely bits - the central room is really cool and funky, and the staff are lovely. The rooms are also funky. But ... It's just a bit tired. Our first room (102) had problems with the heating, which couldn't be switched down or off or anything. We were offered for the hotel staff to control the heating from...

We stayed at Palazzina G for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. Staff couldn't do enough for us and the rooms and facilities were extremely decadent. The hotel is in a perfect location on the Grand Canal inbeween St Marks Square & Rialto. Highly recommended!

A stunning hotel backing onto the Grand Canal - beautiful room full of Starck fittings (we had the Junior Suite Plus) with terrace overlooking the rooftops. This place is ultra-cool especially the main bar and dining area with open kitchen, all with funky seating and beautiful pieces of Murano glassware dotted around the hotel. Very friendly staff all made us...

The hotel is quite modern and cool looking. I thought it was a bit expensive for what it was. At that time you could get legendary hotels like the Bauer and Daniele for the same price. But it's to everyone's liking. It's quite well located, if you Danny want to waste money on the private taxi, the jetty stop is...

We had a second floor room facing the rear terrace so no view and hampered privacy, but it was a good sized double, light, bright and a beautiful bedroom and bathroom. A fabulous wardrobe exterior contained a stunning fitted bar with all the mod cons you could desire. Having stayed at a very traditional Venetian pension the previous nights this...

Normally go for Aman or Four Seasons style, but given the crazy prices in Venice and the lacklustre reviews of the top hotels thought something slightly more affordable more sensible. This was a sensible option. It was still pricey, despite the cheaper discounted winter rates, compared to the level of upkeep (here more a question of necessary capital expenditure than...

Absolutely loved this place with bells on - excellent location, subzero decor and fabulous dedicated staff. This is a place to come back to. Our room was beautiful and well designed - the main dining room bar has a very interesting and eclectic decor - very Italian. The staff here were all so friendly and helpful making fantastic recommendations and...

Finding a good luxury property in Venice that is not your traditional venetian style is few and far between but this place is exactly that. No offense to anyone who likes it, it's just not my style and this probably isn't the right hotel if you do. Very small boutique hotel, you'll work with a handful of employees for everything...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
