We stayed at the Domus Cavanis for one night in Juin for a reasonable price of 130€ for the double room. The location is nice and 15 min from the San Marco piaza. The rooms are clean. The breakfast is average and in another hotel. BUT the room i got was different than the one i booked on the internet:...

It was very very good! Easy to find, very close to a vaporetto station and to Accademia bridge. Very good breakfast (ok to start your day- with the same options daily). We had booked to belle arti but they gave us room to this side. Very good option in general! Nothing to dislike.

We were booked into this hotel through a Rick Steves hotel. The room was fine, recently remodeled and of ample size. The only problem is that there is no outdoor signage on the hotel and nothing to tell you that check-in is across street at the Hotel Belle Arti. Also, the room numbering system is bizarre and it's hard to...

I was really apprehensive visiting this hotel as the reviews I read beforehand were enough to terrify me. That said I thought it was perfect. The location is great, really close to Accademia Bridge and between two vaporetto stops if you want to travel this way from the train station or even around Venice. It is worth noting that you...

Firstly, it doesn't look anything like a hostel/hotel from the outside (not even named on the wall) so we went to a nearby hotel (belle arti) and were informed we check in there. The host was rude when she informed us that it states on our booking that we check in at that hotel (she was correct, it was explained...

We stayed at the Domus Cavanis as I had a work trip to the Biennale, and my husband and 19 month old toddler came along. We had read the reviews on Tripadvisor and were nervous about staying at the hotel, but were pleasantly surprised. We found the other reviews on this site really helpful in setting our expectations - we...

The location of the hostel is good, near to the center and close to many attractions, easy reachable by foot or boat from train station. The room was nice, newly furnished and clean. However: - the hotel is unmanned, check-in is at a nearby hotel. There is none to ask info, a bar where to get a bottle of water....

Yes the hotel is effectively "un-manned" and need to check-in in the Belli Arti - worth knowing if you arrive late and forget! Being unmanned (and quiet in October) it felt a little bit abandoned and lacked atmosphere as a result. If all you want is a bed and place for your bags while you stay in Venice then this...

We made a reservation for 4 nights on September 5, for September 26 - 28. On September 21, 16 days after our booking and 5 days before arrival, we suddenly received a message that the reservation was cancelled. Turn out that the credit card validity was miss typed by 1 digit. We sent the correct data immediately, but the room...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
