I happened to book a reservation on Sept 4th, 2011 instead of my arrival on Sept 3rd. It was my mistake and worse yet I chose non-refundable fare. I booked through PriceLine/Booking.com. Once I realized my mistake, I called PriceLine within minutes of my reservation, PriceLine indicated that it is upto the hotel whether they can change the date of...

Our family of 4 stayed here in the 2 room apartment - a huge bedroom with a sleeper sofa, table and chairs and ensuite bathroom, a kitchen/living room with another sleeper sofa, table and chairs and another bathroom! There was even a washer/dryer. The place was absolutely enormous and so well-appointed. The best part of all was the location -...

Our family of six spent two nights at this hotel in late July. It was a great choice - we stayed in a two room apartment. One room had a queen bed and a sofa bed. The other room had another sofa bed and a kitchenette. The sofa beds were comfortable and the unit also had 2 bathrooms. What I...

We enjoyed a relaxing anniversary weekend here and loved every minute. The location is convenient (walking distance to most attractions) which was great in the evenings as there were lots of good restaurants nearby. The room was superb with a lovely balcony and wooden beams. The staff were really helpful and gave us excellent recommendations of where to eat.

Location is great, just getting there by water taxi is a lot of fun, no walking through the streets with your bags. Accommodation is within a 5 mintue walk to St Mark's Square. Staff are very helpful, they suggested great places to eat,and reasonably priced places to shop. It had been newly renovated when we were there so it was...

This hotel really grew on us over our 3 day, 2 night stay. The staff were extremely helpful, accommodating all of our requests, although we found the Rick Steves' restaurant suggestions far better than those provided by the hotel. They do not provide breakfast, but there is a great pastry place about a block away. The room was impeccably clean...

We booked the hotel in advanced with a room with a balcony view, but once we arrived the room did not have the A/C working, so they offered us a different room. The hotel is cozy with nothing ultra special, just what you expect from a hotel. The rooms are really large, ours came with two rooms, breakfast area, kitchenette...

We stayed here for 3 nights and it a real gem . Excellent location only 5 mins walk from the water bus at Rialto or San Marco yet very quiet at night. Appartment spacious comfortable and clean although the cost to fully use the kitchen at 50 euros is a littlte steep. Staff very helpful and in the perfect spot...

First I think the positive reviews were an understatement. We like high end hotels so were concerned by the apartment nature. The location is perfect and we've been to Venice three times recently. You can take a water taxi direct to the steps of the hotel for 70E from the train station. People say this is a luxury but worth...

My friends and I stayed at the Residence Corte Grimani during our recent trip to Venice and absolutely fell in love with this hotel. It was in a great location very close to San Marco Square, amazing restaurants, and right on a beautiful canal. During the day, gondolas would pass by and often had singers on board which was nice...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
