My niece and I stayed in one of the large suites at the Residence Corte Grimani in June. Unfortunately, the water taxi driver from the Santa Lucia train station informed us after we were 5 minutes into the trip that he couldn't take us direct to the hotel. He claimed that his boat wouldn't fit in the small canal at...

The room was very nice because it was very clean. The location was excellent because it is near Piazza San Marco. The service is very nice.

I took my mother ( who could not walk too far ) and 3 teenage girls to Venice. This was the ideal place . We were thrilled with its location. In the evenings you could watch and hear the gondola's right outside the front door . The area seemed very safe and my teenagers did a lot of exploring and...

We were extremely best with this hotel from the moment we stepped off the water at the Rialto ferry stop and followed the directions straight to the hotel. The hotel is located so centrally, but doesn't have the touristy feel that some of the areas do. The room exceeded our expecations as it was a full apartment that was very...

This was an outstanding hotel, extremely comfortable and spacious-unheard of in Venice. I have stayed at the Danieli and preferred this immensely. Cannot wait to return. We are a family and the staff could not have been more pleasant to each of us. VERY CONVENIENT LOCATION! central to all major sights.

I agree with everyone else who has reviewed this hotel. I booked it after noticing that this is one of the few hotels in Venice that has been rated either Excellent or Very Good by everyone who has stayed there. The ratings are well-justified. My family and I stayed two nights and the apartment was very comfortable, with modern amenities...

The hotel has a very good location. The room size was big, clean and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and professional. Ditto what everyone says in their reviews.

Hotel was an easy find from Rialto and offered a warm welcome. Apartment was huge and well appointed. Very quiet rooms but we loved the windows that opened onto the canal and its regular gondola traffic (and singers!). Handy to markets, grocery stores, and tourist sites and free wifi was great. The laundry was handy (and cheaper than the nearby...

I happened to book a reservation on Sept 4th, 2011 instead of my arrival on Sept 3rd. It was my mistake and worse yet I chose non-refundable fare. I booked through PriceLine/Booking.com. Once I realized my mistake, I called PriceLine within minutes of my reservation, PriceLine indicated that it is upto the hotel whether they can change the date of...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
