This apartment is fabulous and the location is pretty good as well. It's about half way up via garibaldi street in amongst a multitude of bars and restaurants. This is my favourite street in Venice. For those who prefer St Marks square … it's only about a 5/10 minute pleasurable walk away. The apartment is exactly as it appears in...

A lovely apartment in the house of a fifth generation Venetian Gondolier. We stayed at Ca Alexander for four nights at the beginning of October. The area of Via Garibaldi is excellent with many shops, restaurants and a supermarket nearby. We were VERY impressed by the high quality of the accommodation, good Wi-fi a large TV, CD player, full cooking...

My wife and I enjoyed a four night stay at this lovely apartment. Spacious, beautifully decorated with all amenities that you could want. Street views over via Garibaldi and to the waterfront from a lovely long balcony catching the sun till early evening with views over the rooftops too. Plus our own lizard hunting through the flowerpots on the balcony...

What a find. The attic apartment is a fantastic size and well equipped. Not recommended however if you struggle with stairs or you perhaps have a pushchair. At the time of writing the owners run it as a B&B, but they are about to change it to an apartment. It has a full size kitchen already. The apartment is immaculately...

Really enjoyed our stay here, the property is located within easy reach of the centre of Venice, but nicely tucked away on a street with a good selection of restaurants. Can come and go as you please, and breakfast left outside your door every morning consisting of pastries, cakes and bread. Private balcony with view of the water. Thank you...

We stayed at Ca' Alexander in September 2014 (party of 3 adults). The apartment is impeccable, very well appointed (the king size bed was very comfortable, not something you always find in rentals), and ideally located (off the main tourist drag, but within easy walking distance of St Mark's square. Local waterbus stop is a short walk away. Food shops...

Fantantastic place to stay and see Venice. Sabrina gave us excellent directions and if you go into the website there is a short video showing her waking to the apartment so we found it very easy to find. Ideal location about 10 minutes walk to St Marcs Square. The best part was the roof terrace, it had fantanstic views and...

We have just returned from 4 nights in the attic apartment and had a wonderful time. The apartment was a little tricky to find, but once we did it was divine. We stayed as a couple and there was plenty of space. Some key points: Getting there and around: We got the Alilaguna boat from the airport and then walked...

I was in the Attic appartment and really enjoyed my stay. The appartment was even better than expected, clean, fully equiped and comfortable. The hosts were very gracious and informative and wonderfully unintrusive. The appartment is by all sense and purposes independant. It is placed in a quiet area at night there was absolute silence. The terrace gives wonderful views...

Our two week vacation in Italy included a two-night stay at this wonderful B&B and it was one of our favorite spots! Immaculately clean, friendly hosts, perfect location away from the crowds of tourists, magnificent views - a perfect find! Having never been to Venice, I was worried about being "on the outskirts" of the city in Castello - but...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

“If you don't like lots of stairs then choose the Ca' delle Ancore. The Ca' Alexander B&B while having a great balcony and spectacular view is a bit of a climb with heavy luggage.”
