Was slightly outside touristy area but very nice to be away from big crowds! Staff were lovely (brother, sister and awesome housekeeping lady!). Check in was nice and very helpful and informative about the city. Would stay again for sure.

Arrived by water motorboat from airport which dropped us right outside. 10 yards form Grand Canal and between two water bus stops. Lovely room with small bathroom and only thing was right at top of property and we had a few cases!! Friendly and helpful staff. Easy to get everywhere.

My wife and I stayed at the Ca’ San Giorgio for 4 nights late April to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We arrived by water bus (Alilaguna Orange Line) from Marco Polo airport to San Stae. Within a few minutes’ walk we easily found the hotel from the directions they provided. The staff were very welcoming, helpful and polite. The...

This is a perfect place to stay in Venice. A quiet area but near enough to several nice restaurants in the evening. We had the top floor room with the steps up to the decking on the roof where we sat each evening after a long day exploring this beautiful city. The breakfasts were just right and the staff made...

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in our recent trip to Italy. While I could go on and on, I'll try to be brief yet helpful! This is not in the hub of Venice (St. Mark's), and that is a great thing! It is about 15 minutes from the Rialto bridge and 30 minutes to St. Mark's....

One of the best experiences! I was contacted prior to arrival to clarify time of arrival and ensure alternate arrangements to pick up the keys - worked out to perfection including walking directions to the place from the station. Even the way the envelope with key was placed at the entrance gave an idea of how much they care about...

A perfect stay in a wonderful city !! Spotless and comfortable room with high speed wireless internet. The bath was very clean and the water was always hot .the breakfast for accommodation in Italy was very good compared to other 3-star hotels that have stayed. The next time you will be back in Venice we will go there again!

We found this little hotel thanks to a recommendation of a friend in Florence. It was charming and "out of the way of the maddening crowds" of Venice. It's a short walk or vaporetto ride from the train station and to Saint Mark's Square; so we didn't feel far from anything! Our room was large and comfortable. It looked newly...

Ca' San Giorgio was the perfect stay for me. It is an oasis of calm in a hectic Venice. The B&B itself is located in a quiet street, next to the Grand Canal. From the outside, the facade is the same as the other buildings in the street, but once inside you can see how tastefully it has been refurbished....

If you know what to expect form Venice accommodations, you will find out that San Giorgio offers you a very nice price/quality relation. Our host, Maria, was also very helpful and help us with very good tips about Venice.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
