Stayed at the vecellio in early June and although the weather was mixed we had a lovely time The location is great - direct water bus from the airport to the door and our room had views over the water. Rooms are spotless and decorated retaining the character of this old house. The area around the hotel is well worth exploring...

As everyone else has said......a great hotel. Small and friendly. we booked last minute, through a deal and were expecting it to be a bit shabby but nothing could have been further from the truth. The decor was modern and tasteful, yet you were definitely aware that you were in Venice and not just any modern little B & B....

We stayed here during Carnival. I think this a beautiful hotel. The room was excellent and spacious enough for the two of us. Breakfast was also very good. Matteo has a good sense of humor and helped us with any questions we had. The only downside was that the room was kind of hot. We were there in February and...

Hotel Vecellio was the best Hotel I stayed at in Italy. It was safe, clean, the service was great, the room was so gorgeous I felt like I was staying in a mansion, and the best part was waking up in the morning and having the view of the canal. I can truly say Hotel Vecellio was the best Hotel...

We stayed here for 2 nights in June 2007. The location is fantastic, straight off a water bus (42/52) and into the Vecellio. Matteo was an excellent host, friendly, great sense of humor and an AC Milan fan! We had a double and triple and both rooms were very nice as was the hotel in general. Great breakfast with plenty...

This is a great little place, in an excellent location at the vaporetto stop & also 15mins from St Marks - a lovely interesting stroll through the less touristy areas of Venice. The rooms are very comfortable and well equiped. I'd have no problem recommending this hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of May 2007. The location is fantastic, straight off a water bus and into the Vecellio. Matteo was the perfect host, friendly, informative and great sense of humour. The room was really lovely as was the hotel in general. Matteo advises on places to go/eat etc if asked but isn't pushy...

This was a great hotel with only eight rooms. Matteo was a really great host and was able to give great recommendations. We also liked the location as it was right off of water boat stop and allowed you to walk through the canals to get to restaurants etc. A great hotel that I would highly recommend.

Stayed at the Vecellio in room 4 for 3 nights in May and were generally very pleased with our stay. Our room was beautiful and a decent size by Venice standards. We also had a lovely view of the sea. Also an ideal location as it is right off the vaporetto stop, only a 15 ride from train station. Mateo...

We chose the Vecellio after reading reviews on TA. It is less than 100m from the first airport waterbus stop on Venice island. There is some construction work happening on the quayside but we heard nothing in the hotel. The hotel interior has recently been renovated to a high standard, bedroom was a good size and en-suite demonstrated what you...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
